Douglas Phillips Obituary

Douglas Eugene Phillips

Nashville, Tennessee - Died peacefully on June 8, 2019 with his wife, Emmy, by his side. Doug was born on January 26, 1947 in Oxford, Alabama and attended Oxford High School. His family relocated to Huntsville, Alabama; where he graduated from Butler High School. Doug attended the University of Alabama. While there, he was President of his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi and also played on the football team as a strong safety under the coaching of Paul (Bear) Bryant. He told numerous stories of Coach Bryant standing in the tower watching football practice, putting fear in all the players. After graduating with Bachelor's Degree, Doug relocated to Fairfield Glade in Tennessee, where he sold real estate. Soon after, Doug moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in the investment business with Merrill Lynch. He also worked with investment houses, Prudential Bache and Dean Witter Reynolds. In 1990, Doug founded the Oxford Capital Group, and Investment Advisory Business.

In 1995, he married the former Emmy Keith Frost and called her the love of his life. Doug loved the beach, after each trip he would return home and plan the next one. Doug loved all animals but especially his English Mastiffs, Max, Nick and Harry. Doug was an avid tennis player and played with the Donelson Tennis League, the Middle Tennessee Tennis League and several other leagues. He was also a member of The City Salesman Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Doug loved life, as all of his friends knew, he was a fighter to the end. His untimely death has been a shock to us all. We rest in knowing he is in God's loving hands and found peace.

Special thanks to Dr. Colleen Morton, Dr. Kenneth Wyman, Dr. John Williams, and Dr. Oscar Guillamondegui, for the special care Doug received.

Pallbearers: Hamilton Frost, Jr., Steve Kuester, Raymond Mockemore, David Hawkins, Eddie Wayland and Stan Kweller.

Honorary Pallbearers: Mark Frost, Howard Frost, II, Lewis Frost, Walter Keith, Sam Keith, Member sof the Donelson Tennis League, The City Salesman Club and the Beta Theta Pi Social Club of the University of Alabama.

Preceded in death by parents, Frank L. and Mary Alice Phillips; Grandparents, Herman and Gladys Phillips and John and Cora Howell, and Uncle, Reverend Donald Phillips.

Doug is survived by his wife Emmy; his Aunt, Katie Phillips; Uncle, Dr. Robert Phillips, Brother-in-Law, Hamilton (Vickie) Frost, Jr., and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and his beloved dogs, Harry and Gracie.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M until 12 Noon on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Cheek House at First Presbyterian Church, Franklin Road in Nashville. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow visitation in the Main Sanctuary and burial in the family plot at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
