Edward SCRUGGS Obituary

SCRUGGS III, Edward CriddleAge 85 of Nashville, TN. June 20, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. Scruggs, Jr. and Annie Mimms Scruggs, and his brother, Maurice Mimms Scruggs. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Kay Stahl Scruggs; five children, Edward C. Scruggs IV (Beverly) of Lewisburg, Ruth Ann Scruggs of Indianapolis, Mary Kay Whitten (Charlie) of Mt. Juliet, Maurice Mimms Scruggs II (Susan) of Nashville and John Stahl Scruggs (Rita) of Knoxville. Also survived by his sister, Virginia Jared (Shaw) of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Edward was a 1944 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He served in World War II in the Army Air Force. He attended Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he joined his father in the family business of E.C. Scruggs and Sons, and built custom homes in Nashville and Chattanooga for over 50 years. He was a member of The Crownist Faith since 1973. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 23rd at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24th at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the graveside. Honorary Pallbearers are Stephen Sanders, James Walker, Shaw Jared, Joe Bandy, Wallace Edwards, Wilbur Sensing, John Payne, Darrel Simpson, and Dick Williams.
