Gerard Vinett Obituary

Gerard Vinett

Brentwood, TN

Gerard F. Vinett, Sr. July 4, 1930 to September 21, 2016

Jerry was a loving husband to his one and only love, Beth; a love that burned bright for 62 years. He was a proud father to his seven children, Bill (Gail), Kevin, Jerry Jr., Deidre, Renee (Michael), Arthur (Kim), James (James), and grandfather to his thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Jerry had a genuine warmth and interest in others. Their stories, their successes, their heartaches. He had a quiet and selfless generosity of spirit that endeared him to many.

His life was centered by his faith. Through the lens of his Catholicism he was given clarity of conviction and purpose. Taking comfort in his love of Christ and confident of his salvation, he left this world surrounded by family with the knowledge that he would be reunited with them in heaven.

Jerry was a band leader and clarinetist extraordinaire. Man, could he play! Other than his family, nothing gave Jerry more joy than his music and the friendship of his fellow musicians.

I pray for you and your family. I played with Jerry in the Swing Street Orchestra for the last two years. He was a beautiful player and an incredibly nice guy. He was a living example of the power of music. It was an honor to share the stage with him.

Jerry was a wonderfully generous and kindly man. He loved music and enjoyed sharing it and his endless joy.
He welcomed me, a stranger, into his home and family. I will miss him. The world will miss him. but I will always carry a little of him with me.

Beth, my heart and prayers go out to you and to all of your wonderful family. Earth has lost a fantastic man and musician, and Heaven has gained him. I cannot thank him enough for fulfilling my mother wish upon her passing. She wanted a wake with a Dixieland Band playing. When she passed suddenly, and we were able to reach out to Jerry, he didn't hesitate. His passing has hit all who knew and loved him very hard. If you need or want anything in the time ahead, please do not hesitate to call me. Love you all.

Aunt Beth,

Thinking of you at this most difficult time. Uncle Jerry was a man of God and it was privilege to know him. I know he is with our Lord this day in paradise.

My sisters and I regret we will not be able to make it to the wake and funeral Mass, but he is in our prayers.
