Dr. Harold O. Bernard



Nashville, TN

Dr. Harold Oswald Bernard passed away on the morning of Thursday, November 19, 2015, at his home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Bernard was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, W. I. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emily Dyer and James Alfred Bernard; his four siblings, Henry, Rita, Hugo, and Phyllis; and his wife, Clara Jean Jefferson Bernard. He is survived by his three children, James (Margarita Choi) Bernard, Emily (John Gennari) Bernard, and Warren (Doreen Odom) Bernard; his seven grandchildren: Jefferson, Hayden, Myla, Giulia, Isabella, Olivia, and Charles; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He will be mourned, not only by his family, but also by his dear friends at Fisk University, St. Anselm's Church, and Meharry Medical College. A graduate of Fisk, Dr. Bernard earned his M. D. from Meharry, where he served as a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He will be remembered always as a dedicated citizen of the aforementioned institutions, a committed member of his community, and an immeasurably generous and loving mentor, friend, family member, and father. We love you, Dad.

Memorial services for Dr. Bernard will take place on Tuesday, November 24, as follows: Burial Office with Holy Eucharist at St. Anselm's Episcopal Church at 10:30 a.m.; Memorial Service at Fisk University Chapel at 2 p.m., followed by a repast in the Appleton Room, Jubilee Hall, Fisk University. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anselm's Episcopal Church, 2008 Meharry Blvd, Nashville, TN 37208.

Dr. Bernard, was the go to OBGYN and a Pilar in the community. He delivered my first 9lbs baby boy in 1986. I still remember his smile and and laugher, he was a great man which made him a caring physician, I know he blessed many and is missed by a multitude. Rest in peace Dr.

1 of The Greatest OB/GYN. He was my go to in Life. Dr. Bernard taught and I listen and follow through and my body was healed. 3 Great Deliveries a 8/4 oz....9.0 lbs and a 10 lbs all healthy and he will always be in my life for he help to give me Life.

He was a Great Physician and Nashville as a whole Loved Dr. Bernard and I appreciated how he took care of me as a physician and what he taught me. Dr. Bernard delivered 3 of my children and the last 10 lbs was a Whopper but he stay right by my side. Glory to God.
