Harriet JACOBS Obituary

JACOBS, Harriet Gayle Age 71, was born November 2, 1938 and passed away March 1, 2010. Ms. Jacobs is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Harry Jacobs and Rachel Jacobs. She is survived by her sister, Karen Garrett (Steve), her companion of 30 years, Gaines Mann, her cousin, Charles Taylor and several other cousins in Arkansas and Kentucky. She graduated from Mt. Sterling High School in Mt. Sterling, KY, Memphis State University with a BS degree in math, and Vanderbilt University with a PHD in Biochemistry. Gayle spent her entire career at Vanderbilt first working with Dr. Leon Cunningham in research, then as Director of the Chemistry Laboratory at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Finally, she was Director of Laboratory Computer Operations at VUMC. Ms. Jacobs was a devoted Christian and member at Hobson United Methodist Church. Her family gives thanks for the capable and compassionate loving care given to Gayle by Pamphelia Wilson and by the staff at Lakeshore The Meadows. A Celebration of Gayle's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 in the Sanctuary of Hobson UMC, 1107 Chapel Ave, Nashville, TN 37206. The Rev. Sonnye Dickson and The Rev. Janet Wolf will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hobson UMC. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service Saturday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Hobson UMC. WOODLAWN-ROESCH-PATTON FUNERAL HOME, 660 Thompson, Lane, Nashville, TN 37204, (615)383-4754.
