Jan VanEys Obituary

Jan David van Eys

Nashville - David was born September 15, 1988 in Nashville, TN and died April 23, 2021 in Ft Lauderdale, FL. He is survived by his parents Peter and Patti Parkison van Eys; brother Dane van Eys (Kielee); grandparents Jan van Eys (Judith Hodges), and Lee and Ellamarie Parkison; nieces Lera and Dovey van Eys; aunts and uncles Cathy van Eys Fuchs, Tari Parkison Hughes (Jim), Tim Parkison (Brandi), Nanci Parkison Murphy (Erik); cousins Chris and Paul Fuchs (Alexis Braun), Hailee Hunt-Hawkins (Erick) and Karlyn Hunt (Max Anderson), Raleigh and Twyla Parkison, Cassidy, Ryann, and Mackenzie Murphy; as well as a large extended family in the Netherlands and the United States. He was predeceased by his grandmother Lera Catherine van Eys and his uncle Howard Fuchs.

David is a graduate of Franklin Road Academy and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In childhood and adolescence he found much joy and success as an athlete, particularly soccer. In college he majored in business logistics and enjoyed work in that profession. However, he soon found himself in the grip of addiction, and though he fought it valiantly, it claimed his life through an accidental overdose.

David was deeply and strongly attached to his family, made friends easily even as addiction challenged relationships, and had a kind, sensitive, and intuitive heart. He had an adventurous spirit which ignited a love of travel, a connection with creation (particularly water, from oceans to canals to mountain lakes), a passion for exploring ethnic cuisines, and great pleasure in creative cooking.

David was a man of faith, which he cultivated through music, prayer, and his practice of forming gratitude lists.

One of the places where he felt most at one with God and his core self was working with the Lighthouse Children's Center in Tallinn, Estonia. Anyone who feels led to make a memorial gift in David's name might consider the Estonia Mission Fund at Calvary UMC, 3701 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN 37215

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family will have a private graveside service on May 15th in the Calvary Columbarium Garden.
