Joan Rial Gilmore

Nashville - Joan Rial Gilmore, 78, of Nashville, TN, joined her beloved parents in heaven on Monday, November 30, 2020.

Joan was born on February 12, 1942 in Hickman County, TN on Sugar Creek—a place of rare beauty and home to five generations of the family. As the only child of Manda Taylor Rial and John Rial, she was born into a close community of aunts, uncles, and grandparents who poured love into her and blessed her with a magical childhood.

She moved to Nashville at age 20 and excelled in her career as a beautician, drawing on her intuitive understanding of grace, beauty, and artistry.

She married Van Gilmore in 1974, and they spent 46 wonderful years together. Joan was joyful to become a mother to two delightful and curious daughters, deeply committed to seeing her family grow and thrive.

Joan loved spending time in nature, gardening, cooking, and painting. She brought beauty and richness to everything she touched, creating a beautiful home, gardens, meals, and paintings. She cherished time with family and overflowed with love, nurture, and grace, with special attention on her treasured daughters and grandchildren.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan was gracious, kind, faithful, generous, and adoring of her family, who eternally love and treasure her in their hearts. She was deeply connected to God through prayer and communion with nature. She loved to walk in her yard and marvel at the beauty so many overlook.

She is survived by her husband, Van Gilmore; daughters, Beth Gilmore and Carrie Gilmore Byl (husband, Jake); and 5 grandchildren, Jasmine, Grace, Lily, Gideon, and Caroline. We know that she is now held in the loving embrace of her Creator and we pray to feel her spirit and radiant beauty in our lives every day as we move through this earth without her physical presence.

A visitation gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, Nashville, TN. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
