Karen Werthan Obituary

Karen Brick Werthan

Nashville - Beloved mother, sister, aunt and fiancée, Karen Brick Werthan, 48, passed away suddenly on October 17, 2020. She is survived by her cherished children, Shannon Guerreno and Declan Werthan, as well as her brother, Michael Brick, and wife, Krista; her sister, Claire Corby, and husband, Jon; fiancé, Mark Davenport; many loving nieces and nephews and family and friends around the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine and Ian Brick. Karen was devastated by their deaths and missed them both dearly. She would often retreat to their memorial bench in Percy Warner Park for peace and reflection.

Despite the pain of this loss, Karen radiated light and spread joy with her bright smile. Friends and family were awed by her strength, beauty and generosity. Fiercely loyal, she cared deeply for others and always encouraged them with words of confidence and kindness.

Karen was full of energy and an avid fitness enthusiast. She enjoyed running and yoga and shared this passion with a group of dear friends. She was incredibly happy to be engaged to Mark, traveling and sharing wonderful weekend getaways. Still, nothing meant more to Karen than her children whom she loved fiercely; her Instagram profile captured this, stating simply: "Family is everything. My kids are my world." Shannon and Declan will forever miss their mom who was taken too soon.

Karen was born on December 21, 1971 in Macclesfield, England, and grew up in Dublin, Ireland, until the Brick family immigrated to the United States in 1985. They moved to Nashville in 1987. Karen graduated from Brentwood Academy in 1989 and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Syracuse University in 1993. Her career began at Equitable Securities as a reporting analyst; she then served as associate vice president at Morgan Keegan before transitioning to a successful career in sales, with several years spent at Style Blueprint.
