PHIL WAS MY BROTHER IN LAW, MARRIED TO MY SISTER, BELITA, HE WAS LIKE MY BROTHER. I WAS PROUD TO HAVE HIM AS A FAMILY MEMBER. MY SISTER HAD A LONG BATTLE WITH CANCER. HE WAS VERY KIND AND PATIENT, AND SHE HAD GREAT CARE. THEY WERE BOTH TALENTED AND I WOULD STOP BY TO HEAR THEIR SONGWRITING AND MUSIC. A VERY INTELLIGENT MAN, WITH NO WORLDLY TRAITS. PEOPLE ALL OVER FAIRVIEW KNEW PHIL FROM THE STORE. I DONT KNOW HOW HE CONTINUED TO WORK, BUT THAT WAS HIS DESIRE, TO KEEP WORKING AS HIS HEALTH DETERIORIATED, HE DID START VOICING THAT HE WASNT DOING WELL, BUT HE WAS INDEPENDENT AND WOULDN'T ALLOW HELP UNLESS I PUSHED. HE DIDNT WANT TO EAT, BUT WE WOULD HAVE VISITS OVER DINNER. HE DIDNT COMPLAIN WHEN BELITA HAD CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN PROBLEMS. HE WAS THERE. SO GLAD TO HAVE KNOWN HIM. HE HAS A WONDERFUL FAMILY THAT HE LOVED AND HE WOULD SHOW ME PICTURES AND KEEP ME POSTED ON THEIR LIVES HE COULD BE PROUD OF
THEM. THANK YOU PHIL FOR BEING IN MY LIFE. YOU ARE MISSED.

I am Betty Moon, was Martha Murphree's sister, and was in Phil's class in school through the tenth grade, and can say that we were "sweethearts" for a couple of years (seven through ten years old!). At Christmas, in the third grade, he gave me six "Coconut Grove" chocolate coconut candy bars, and being a country girl, I had never felt so rich and cared for! And, in the junior high years, there are stories that still are told of his shenanigans. I am laughing now! Thanks, Phil, for making our lives so rich! I wish there were space to tell you all the stories I remember. Phil was such a special person! He was certainly one of the funniest people I've known, and one who always kept his sweetness. I admired him when I was seven, and still admire him when I am seventy-five. Blessings on you all.

I worked with Phil 30 years at WSM for 10 years and 20 years at WSMV. Believe me there is a difference. He was intelligent, and funny with a great sense of humor. After the year 2000 I would visit him at his home and at the Shell stations in Fairview. A lot of fond memories . He is missed !!!

I got to know Phil when I started working for WSMV in 1996. I only had the opportunity to work with him for a short time before he retired but he was great at what he did and one of the friendliest people I ever met. My condolences to his family and friends. I know he will be greatly missed.
