I recently learned of Rick's passing. Though he and I were not especially close during our time together at the University of Michigan, and had not spoken since our college days to my recollection, we were Delta Upsilon fraternity brothers and that means something...it's a life long brotherhood that is cherished. Rick was House Manager when I pledged in the winter semester of 1985. He was warm, friendly, a hard worker and courageous. At one of our house parties, a really tall and big guy and two buddies vandalized the 3rd floor hallway. A group of us chased them down the street and surrounded them. While I shook like a leaf, too scared to step forward, Rick (tall but much thinner and lighter than the perpetrator), stood up to him and literally took a right punch to the jaw. Though Rick went down, he got up...I think we had to help him a bit. Though ashamed of my cowardice, I couldn't help but admire Rick's courage.
Rick and I were and are also brothers in Christ Jesus. I much enjoyed reading of all the wonderful things he was involved with at St. Paul's. I pray that Jesus, born, crucified and risen, for Rick and for the world, would bring comfort, peace and joy to wife, Ca'Tricia, family and friends. Indeed, in Jesus Heaven is our home.
Sincerely and fraternally in Christ Jesus,
Rev. Peter A. Richert

Thank you for showing my sister that she too is worthy of love... Ca'Tricia, I really think David and Memaw will really like him. Nanny too. One thing I am absolutely sure of? They are all with Jesus, and none want you to continue hurting for them. They would want you to be strong and carry on. I love you with my whole heart, Tree. And, one day, when God decides your life on Earth is completed, you will get to go home too. Just think. . . You now have a new and BEAUTIFUL Angel.

I miss him so much. He and I had so much in common, being tall men, real congenial, making differences for everyone and being compassionate about cars. I didnt know him as well. I know he was sweet and generous towards me.

I'm so very sad about this. I'm very sorry for CaTricia and all the family for their loss. Rick was such a giving, selfless person. He made a difference at St. Paul's and in many lives.

Some thoughts come to mind, about a decent, kind and dedicated believer:
Rick was a genuinely kind and decent man, who gave himself to serving those around him.
He made a difference in many of the ministries at St. Paul's Episcopal, as well as the community of Murfreesboro.
He was smart, thorough and helped in many ways not so obvious, at St. Paul's, as well as in leadership roles.
He was a good teammate, dependable and compassionate.
He cared deeply for his family.
He cared deeply for his Faith and Lord.
He made a difference for Good, and will be missed here and elsewhere.
We are better for having known him.
We extend our condolences, and will be praying for his family.
