Sarah Sykes CLAYBORNE

CLAYBORNE, Sarah Sykes Age 93, of Hermitage, TN, died January 08, 2011. Preceded in death by husband, Allen "Brown" Clayborne, Sr.; parents, Marvin Lee and May Allison Sykes; brother, Melvin Sykes; 2 sisters, Macel Coss and Mary Sadler; 1 nephew, Boyd Sykes. Survived by son, Allen Brown Clayborne, Jr. (Karen); 2 granddaughters, Sarah Katherine Clayborne and Samantha Jill Clayborne, all of Germantown, TN; sister-in-law, Opal Sykes, Macon, GA; nephew, William Sadler (Barbara), Cincinnati, OH; nieces, Martha Jean Alley (Frank), Nashville, TN, Joanna Hidgon (Dennis), Memphis, TN, Beth Borderieux, Macon, GA, and Pam Mago (Philip), Greenbrier, TN, and many great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Clayborne was a member of Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church in Donelson, TN, for well over 50 years and she and her husband helped start the Church Bazaar. She and Brown were both graduates of the Waverly Central High School Class of 1936 in Waverly, TN. They dearly loved going to their class reunions and spending time with their friends and classmates. She was the retired owner/operator of Sarah's Coiffure on 21st Avenue South, being among the first women to own her own beauty salon in Nashville. She was a member of Stone's River Woman's Club and she and Brown were charter members of Ravenwood Club. In 1966, she and Brown sold Hurricane Mills to Loretta and Oliver Lynn. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until funeral service time at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly. Rev.
