Willie Murray Obituary

Willie Mae Murray

Nashville - In loving memory of Willie Mae Murray, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was born to Anna Belle McCrary and Henry Whitehead in Marion Junction, Alabama, September 12th, 1923. She took her final rest on October 1st, 2019, at the age of 96 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Willie Mae Murray attended Howard University for two years with the intent of becoming a journalist. Upon marrying Robert Murray (deceased) and starting a family, she had to discontinue her education. She worked as a secretary and obtained a beautician license. She was a passionate Christian, and often stood on street corners giving out tracks. In 1979 she obtained a license to preach. And she preached and uplifted and inspired many. Even upon the demise of her health and having to be admitted to a nursing home, she continued to preach to any who would listen. She continued to express her faith in the poems she wrote, which were recently published by her granddaughter Baqiyyah Conway.

She had 4 children, Ann Baiden (deceased), Robert Murray, Helen Jackson and George Murray. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Nana, Baqiyyah, Kweku, Malik, Isa, Sharon, Zakiya and Johnny. She is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

I love you, Grandma and will sorely miss you! I miss you now. I miss calling you and saying I love you and you saying "I love you, too."
You were an awesome, grandmother!
