Christopher MORAN Obituary

MORAN, Christopher Dean
December 10, 1993 - January 7, 2014
Christopher passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital, January 7, 2014, aged 20, as the result of injuries received when hit by a car December 21, 2013, while crossing the street in Cambridge, ON. He was a second-year student at the University of Waterloo's School of Architecture, where he was happily pursuing his dreams, surrounded by many friends. Christopher was born and grew up in Ottawa, attending Lady Evelyn Alternative School, Alta Vista Public School and Canterbury High School's Visual Arts program. He was a talented artist, especially in three-dimensional media; a budding photographer who captured superb street photography while on a recent class trip to New York; and an eclectic music fan who loved attending Ottawa's annual Bluesfest. He was also an enthusiastic Taekwondo athlete who earned his 2nd Dan Black Belt from Canterbury Taekwondo. Christopher leaves behind his parents, mother Elaine Dean, father Francis Moran, step-mother Linda Moran and step-father Sean O'Brien; and brother, Julian, 18. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends from both Canterbury High and the University of Waterloo who were attracted to his easy-going spirit, his generosity, his growing creativity in the kitchen where every dish could be improved by the addition of bacon, and his trademark beaming smile. A celebration of Christopher's life will be held Saturday, January 18 at the Kelly Funeral Home Somerset Chapel, 585 Somerset St., Ottawa, with visitation between 2:30 and 5:30 pm, and a service starting at 3:30 pm. Christopher was fond of his rock-and-roll t-shirts and had an extensive collection of humorous Threadless t-shirts, so don't be shy to break out your favourite. Christopher will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts. He was deeply loved and will be missed by his family and his many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Mark Preece Family House in Hamilton, which was a tremendous support to Christopher's family. Words fail. My deepest regrets at the loss of Christopher. I have fond memories of you and the boys visiting us in PEI and Fredericton, bouncing on the bed & going for ice creams at the lighthouse by the river. Those were better days. I would wish for more.

Francis and family, there are no words.

An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Keeping you in our prayer, Grainne

Dear Francis: A big hug to you and Linda, and condolences to all of Christopher's family and friends. I remember him and Julian visiting HBS as little nippers. He had obviously grown into a wonderful young man. Your words (and Elaine's) in the Citizen story were inspiring.
