Edward Tyler Obituary

Edward "Ed" D. Tyler, age 80 of Hammondsport, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Guthrie Corning Hospital in Corning, NY.

Ed was born December 17, 1935 in Pulteney, NY.

He is predeceased by his parents Erwin and Adaline Tyler, and his sister Sandra Tyler Senay.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janice; daughters Susan (Clifford) Weatherell of Rochester, NY, Rebecca (Lawrence) Marvin of Newark, NY, and Sara (Jeffrey) Hunn of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren Hannah Marvin, Leah Marvin, Jordan Hunn, Ryan Hunn, and Evan Hunn; step-grandchildren Dwane (Michelle) Weatherell and Ray Weatherell, step-great-granddaughter Victoria Weatherell; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A 1954 graduate of Hammondsport Central School, Ed went on to graduate from the Toledo School of Meat Cutting. He served his country in the United States Army, stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.

Ed then worked at the Taylor/Great Western Winery for 35 years as an engineering project manager, retiring in 1995.

He was a gifted craftsman, woodworker, and woodturner who built his own house and crafted parts of the interior of the St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport, NY. He was an avid sportsman proficient in hunting, fishing, trapping, archery, and target, trap, and skeet shooting. He was an active conservationist, and enjoyed ballroom dancing and the New York Yankees.

Ed was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, the Bath Elks Club, and the Finger Lakes Woodturners Association. Additionally, he was a member of the American Associaton of Woodturners, the Rochester Woodworkers Society, and the Bath Rod and Gun Club.

Ed worshipped at St. James Episcopal Church, where he served on its Vestry, was a member of the Hammondsport Central School Board of Education from 1981-1991 where he held the title of president from 1984-1991, and a member of the Hammondsport Rotary Club and was president from 1983-1984.

Services will be held for Ed at St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport, NY on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00am. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of one's choice.

We are so sorry to read of Ed's passing. It has been some time since we had seen him, but Ed has certainly left a lasting legacy in the community with his wonderful woodworking, his many years of service to the school as well as having a lovely family. Our sincere condolences to Janice, the girls and their families. Ed will certainly be well remembered.
