Eileen Sofia Obituary
Born in Elmira, NY on December 12, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude Lynch Lorgan.
She retired as the Health and Census secretary from Elmira City School District Board of Education and shortly thereafter relocated to Charlotte.
She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Preceding her in death on November 12, 1999 was her husband, Mark Sofia. A brother, Walter Lorgan also preceded her.
Survivors include her sons, Stephen Sofia of Charlotte, NC, Anthony Sofia and his wife, Lisa of St. Louis, MO, Paul Sofia and his wife, Michelle of Rockwell, NC, Matthew Sofia and his wife, Leslie of Summerfield, NC and Christopher Sofia and his wife, Denise of Charlotte, NC; 9 grandchildren, Anthony, Bryan, Andrew, Kristen, Adrianne, Maria, Mark, Abigail and Sarah; and 6 sisters, Mary Rose Connelly, Rita Wood, Pat Todd, Kathleen Stermer, Madeline Jones and Joan Kauffman.
Friends may visit Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1400 Suther Ave., Charlotte, NC 28213.
Burial will take place in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in memory of Eileen Sofia may be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078 or Levine Cancer Institute, 1021 Morehead Medical Dr., Charlotte, NC 28204.

I want to thank all of you that have shared your thoughts and condolences regarding our mother. While she will be missed by all, she truly has been reunited with our father, the love of her life, in the presence of God. My sincere condolences to Eileen's family on her passing. I worked with Eileen for many years at the Elmira City School District Administration Building. Eileen was a wonderful co-worker. She always talked about how much that she enjoyed going to the beach with her family. May wonderful memories like these help to ease the pain that you are going through now.

She was a great lady and I have fond memories of sitting around the kitchen table of your old Water Street house chatting with her during my childhood. Julie and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies & our heartfelt condolences.
Chris, your mother was an amazing person and an inspiration to many. I recall, in fact, her dynamic spirit and her feisty outlook when we met years ago at a Hendrick fund raiser.
She personified the “fighting spirit” it takes to persevere against tragic illness. And she was victorious, as you know, in her personal battle to ensure several years of extra joy & love with her precious family.
May you find comfort in those added years of memories. And may you find solace now knowing she is at peace.
