Pauline A. Ambrosone
Corning - Pauline A. Ambrosone, age 84, of Corning, NY passed away July 23, 2021 at home following an extended illness.
Pauline was born September 27, 1936, the daughter of Harvey and Bessie (Knapp) Kies. She became the wife of Michael C. Ambrosone in 1956. She graduated from Northside High School in 1953 and completed many courses offered through Corning Community College.
Pauline was employed as a secretary in the Industrial Engineering Department and New Products Division of Corning, Inc. for nine years. She enjoyed a seven-year recess to start their family, then returned to the work world at Corning-Painted Post Area School District. After assignments with the Community Schools program, Carder Elementary School, and the Tax Office, she settled in as the secretary in the Physical Education, Athletics and Health Department for approximately 23 years. She was a member of the Local, State and National Associations for the Educational Office Employee. She served as Treasurer for two terms at the local level, as well as Chairman of the Professional Standards Program for ten years. She completed thirteen 30-hour classes along with association responsibilities and membership to obtain her certification as an educational employee. She was the recipient of the Judith Martens State Secretarial award, selected by the New York State Athletic Administrators' Association for outstanding performance and contributions made to the local and statewide programs. She was also recognized by The Leader in their supplement featuring, "People Who Make a Difference."
She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Corning Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She was a former member of the Board of Education for the Corning Catholic Schools. When her health allowed, she enjoyed helping others in their time of need. Her greatest enjoyment was the precious time she spent with her sons, daughters-in-law and grandsons. Along with her faith, they truly were the light of her life. She was a communicant of All Saints Parish with her membership at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Rosary Society, and The League of the Sacred Heart.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Linda) Ambrosone from Corning and Mark (Maria) Ambrosone; two grandsons, Thomas Andrew and Michael Brian from Hopkinton, MA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, to whom she had been married for 46 years at the time of his death in 2002; her parents; brothers: James Kies from Salamanca, Robert Kies from Corning, William Kies from Campbell; and sister, Marie (Kies) Houghtaling from Corning.
Calling hours are from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, July 28th, at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 East First Street in Corning, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 29th, at 9:30 AM at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning with Father Matthew Jones officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
