Thomas Kuehner Obituary

Rev. Thomas M. Kuehner, age 54, of Corning, NY went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22, 2017.

Tom was born on October 17, 1962 in Corning to Edward and Sue (Senkulics) Kuehner. He married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Deborah Gehl, on February 8, 1986 in Corning.

Tom graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1984 where he received a full ROTC scholarship. He served in the United States Army in Germany with the Military Police from 1984 to 1988.

Tom loved his family with his whole heart. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was the highlight of his life. He had endearing nicknames for those closest to him, and he brightened any room with his laughter and smile. Tom was often referred to as a gentle giant.

Tom served as a pastor at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church in Painted Post. He had many responsibilities in his role at Victory, but his passion was working with missionaries both locally and around the world bringing hope to people in several nations.

Tom and his wife enjoyed traveling and working on their home to make it a place where people could gather and feel loved. He enjoyed leading small groups with teens and adults, and he made everyone he talked to feel important. He always found ways to help others without any care of recognition. His humble spirit followed him everywhere.

He is survived by his wife Deb; two daughters, Stephanie Kuehner of Corning and Nicole Kuehner of Spring Hill, TN; son, Joseph and wife Michelle Kuehner of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Malakai and Charlotte; his father Edward Kuehner; brothers, Elmer (Fredaann) Kuehner of Campbell and Richard (Jeanette) Kuehner of Horseheads; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Sherry Gehl of Corning; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and cousins on both sides of the family. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Sue and by his brother Edward.

Calling hours will be held at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church on Monday, July 31st from 11 - 1 and 5 - 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1st at 10 AM at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.

Dear Deb- I have just heard this news. I feel for you, as Tom was and still is, a model of goodness and giving, for which, I have never forgotten over these 33 years since Graduation from St. Bonas, the wedding, and visit in Germany.

We were housemates. So very intelligent, accepting of people and human frailty, positive and wise to the world. Tom is one of my favorite people I have ever known. Though we have been in contact but a few times throughout the years, I shall miss him so very much- but please know, his goodness lives on in my memory and soul.

I have always described Tom as written above. He of course was so very gentle, and strong beyond words- he is missed. I loved to visit his family so very much during my college years. The great news is probably next to you, he is now with his most favorite person in the world, his mother Sue.

My most deepest and heartfelt condolences to you, Stephanie, Nicole, and grand children
and Tom's immediate family.

Deb and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was truly a man of God and I really liked the small groups that I was in and he facilitated. He was always so kind and friendly. Loved his smile! I will continue to pray for your family as you navigate life without him here. May you all feel the comfort that God gives and the joy in the memories that you have.

Deb and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I attended East High with Tom and grew up just down the street from him. We spent a lot of time running around together. Usually with Bill Lacombe. I am sorry to say that the last time I saw Tom and Deb was Germany in 1985, while I was traveling from the middle east to renew a visa. We had a wonderful dinner and I, way too many adult beverages at a local brewery. It is a wonderful memory that I have happily recalled on too many numerous occasions to count. God bless.....

Dearest Deb, I'm in shock over Tom's homegoing. Can you just imagine what he's seeing now?
My heart is so sad; I want you to know that I love you, miss you, and am
praying that the Comforter will be your constant companion these days. My heart hurts for your children and their broken
hearts as well. May they too find the strength and solace which they so desperately need today.
Love you dear Deb.

I was a Bona classmate of Tom's...and will always remember his shining spirit...his brilliant but shy smile and his warmth. He was, indeed, a gentle giant, who lit up any room he entered.
My prayers and deepest sympathies are with those he loved so dearly...
