James Fuller Dibrell Jr.

1956 - 2023

On Tuesday morning, April 18, 2023, James Fuller Dibrell, Jr. found peace and rest in the arms of Jesus. By his side, his faithful and constant companion, Duke, and in the solitude of the woodlands he loved, he took the hand of his Savior and followed him home lifted up to heaven on the wings of eagles.

Funeral, Sunday, April, 23, 1:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service, followed by visitation.

Fuller was born September 23, 1956, son to Mr. James Fuller Dibrell and Mrs. Mary Patience Dibrell of Danville, Virginia. He grew up in Wilson, North Carolina, with his family and now life-long friends. His love of the outdoors shaped his adventures from the coastal grasslands and waterways of the Outer Banks to the rolling red clay hills of Oakhaven Farm, but he was happiest at the edge of an Elm City pond fed by the dark waters of Town Creek in pursuit of an elusive largemouth bass.

Fuller is survived by his sister Frances Dibrell Bisby of Raleigh and Patience Dibrell Ergish of Greensboro. He was blessed with, and loved dearly, his four nieces Lauren Taylor Garcia, Jordan Vess Blalock, Patience Woodard Ergish, and Mary Anna Ergish. In October of 2022, Fuller became a Granduncle to Miles Reid Blalock. Known for the tremendous capacity of his heart, Fuller was frequently found at the aid of strangers, friends, and family.

However, his legacy is his love for the children in his life to whom he was devoted and that looked to him as father and uncle through the unbreakable bonds of choice most notably Mary Rome Vaughn Daniel, Ian Palmer Sally, John Grayson Lea Sally IV, Robert Lee Bennett Sprinkle IV, Brooks Dianne Sprinkle, John Bascomb Sprinkle, Robert Benjamin Mullis II, and Temple Mullis Varno. At the crossroads and milestones of their lives, he was steadfast with unconditional love, kind words, encouragement, and wisdom. Most importantly, he taught them how to celebrate the important things in life. No one could bring laughter and levity on demand like my brother, Fuller, and no one will be more missed for their departure or celebrated for their gifts of enrichment he so willingly graced to each of our lives.
