CLARKS SUMMIT — Esther D. Staples, 92, of Clarks Summit, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Robert Staples Sr., who died in 1993.
Born in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret (Ives) Doud. She was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School and was employed as a hostess for several local restaurants including Perkins, Elby's, and the Abington Heights School District in the cafeteria. Prior to her retirement she was a plantologist and owned and operated the Gravel Pond Nursery. She was a member of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church.
Esther was an avid tennis player for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Robert D. Staples Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Clarks Summit, and Thomas H. Staples and his wife, Patti, of Waverly; two daughters, Rebecca L. Bills and her husband, Mitchell, of Yulee, Florida, and Pamela J. White and her husband, John, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, a sister, Jane Warr, of Glendale, California; seven grandchildren, Brian Staples and his wife, Jennifer, of Factoryville, Timothy Staples and his wife, Valerie, of Clarks Summit, Eric Staples, of St Louis, Missouri, Amanda Staples, of Germantown, Andrew Staples, of Waverly, and Trevor and Evan White, of Hilton Head, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Timothy Staples Jr. and Sarah Rezykowski; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold A. Doud, and two sisters, Ann Hall and Mary Josephine Cristiano.
A memorial service was held from the Clarks Green United Methodist Church, 119 Glenburn Road, Clarks Green, with services by the Rev. Brent Stouffer, pastor. Interment followed in Abington Hills Cemetery.

I was so sorry to hear of Esther's passing. I always enjoyed seeing & talking to her on her visits to the office & most recently in Abington Manor. She was a great lady who lived a long and good life. God Bless you all in this time of sadness.
