LUZERNE — Lorraine Welch, 90, of Luzerne, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Dallas, after a brief illness.
Born on Oct. 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Earl C. and Ethel P. Evans. Lorraine was a 1944 graduate of Luzerne High School. She was a lifelong member of the Luzerne United Methodist Church and more recently attended the Wyoming Avenue Christian Church, Kingston. She retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Lorraine was a member of the Wyoming Valley Chapter of Deborah Hospital Foundation. In addition, she was a life member of Harmony Chapter 58, Order of the Eastern Star.
Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard C. Welch; daughter, Cathy L. Kieczkajlo; granddaughter, Karyn L. Newell; brothers, Earl and Warren Evans; and sister, Doris Brace.
She is survived by sons, Dean R. Welch and his wife, Barbara, of Dallas; and Corey L. Welch and his wife, Ellen, of Larksville; and son-in-law, Eugene Kieczkajlo, of Plains Township. Lorraine is also survived by grandchildren, Carrie L. Kieczkajlo, James D. Welch, Lynnelle M. Welch, Corey L. Welch and Shana L. Welch; and four great-grandchildren, Renata, Riley, Abigail and Vivian.
Lorraine's family gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care she received while a resident of the Mercy Center and appreciates the prayers offered on Lorraine's and her family's behalf.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc., Forty Fort, and interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Kingston Township. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, 212 Trenton Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015.
