Barbara "Sue" Cox

Lafayette - A funeral service will be held at Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM for Sue Cox who passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 after a lengthy illness. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Reverend Scott Bullock will officiate at the service. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum. She is survived by one daughter, Donna Whatley; one son, Kyle Cox; granddaughter, Kristin Landrum; grandsons, Christopher Whatley, Kannon Cox, Kougar Cox; great granddaughter, Kayla Besaw and sister, Ann Dowdy (Joe). She was preceded in death by Don Cox, her husband of 56 years; her parents, Bernice and D.P. Stewart; and her son-in-law, Billy Whatley. Sue was a very talented and creative person. After graduating from USL, she taught school at New Iberia High; which gave her the opportunity to direct many school plays. She was instrumental in starting Ipal Theater. As owner of the Country Gift Depot, she had the opportunity to use her decorating talent. She enjoyed a wide variety of interests. She liked to sing and particularly enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines at one time. Since writing was one of her interests; her family members received a copy of her book of poems. She loved to travel and her trip to Israel, where she was baptized in the Jordan River, was her favorite. She was an avid reader and a movie buff. Sue was also a very generous person who supported many children's charities.
