Bertha Bernard Obituary
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Bertha Bernard.
Interment will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery.
Bertha Bernard, a long time resident of Lafayette, LA, departed this life peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, April 25, 2015. She was born to the late Ulysses and Alberta Bernard on July 22, 1920. She was the eldest of three children. She attended Holy Rosary Institute and was a life-long member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Bertha was a cook and was passionate about her cooking and baking. She cooked for the priests at St. Patrick's Church and loved her work. She enjoyed working with plants and could often be seen trimming the hedges in her yard.
She is survived by a loving nephew, Alfred Bernard, Jr.; loving nieces, Dianne McZeal Williams and Cynthia McZeal Francis (Oscar) and a host of nephews and nieces and devoted caregivers, Dana Jones and Franzella Williams whom she came to know as family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses and Alberta Bernard; her brother, Alfred "Molly" Bernard; her sister, Ella Bernard McZeal and loving companion, John Norbert, Sr.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m.
