Doris Catalon Obituary

Doris Catalon

Maurice - Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 4:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mrs. Doris Catalon, 71 who died Friday March 7, 2014 at her residence in Maurice, La. Fr. Michael Sucharski, SVD will be the Celebrant of the Mass. Inurnment will be conducted at a private ceremony in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Maurice at a later date.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Nora Clement. Two daughters, Phyllis (Eric) Johnson and Stacy (Lance) Ned. Two sons, Curtis Catalon and Troy Catalon all of Maurice, La. Six grandchildren, Eric Johnson, II, Cameron Johnson, Myles Johnson, Sean Charles Ned, Avery Ned and Nikolas Catalon.

Doris was married to Paul Catalon for 45 years. During that time, they reared four children. She was employed by the Vermilion Parish School Board as a teacher's assistant for over 30 years. She retired to care for her husband after he was stricken with leukemia. Her joy was working with young children. Many of her conversations were about the antics and stories of the children she worked with over the years. She befriended many parents of the children both through the school system and at the family's daycare where she volunteered her time as bus monitor.

Since her father's passing, she served as her mother's primary caregiver. They lived together in Maurice for the past 10 years. She loved bingo and the occasional trip to the casino for entertainment. She also enjoyed cooking large meals and entertaining her family.

Her undying courage, strength, and faith in God helped her courageously take on her battle with cancer.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the Miles Perret Cancer Center, Southern Care Hospice and Drs. Breaux and Malad for the care and compassion shown to her during this time. We would also like to acknowledge the countless acts of kindness shown to our mother during her illness. Her empathy for others during her lifetime was returned to her many times over during her battle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Miles Perret Cancer Center or the St. Joseph Catholic Church (Maurice) Building fund.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Catalon,. Father, Ivory Clement. Brother, Edward Clement.

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm until time of service with a rosary to be recited at 3:30 pm.
