Edward Krampe Obituary

Edward J. Krampe

LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 at a 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Edward J. Krampe who passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

Mr. Krampe was a native of Piqua, Ohio. He arrived in Lafayette from California to open his first McDonald's restaurant in 1972. Today, McDonald's of Acadiana employs over 1,200 people. Over the years, more than 70,000 Acadiana residents have been employed by the company. His guiding business principle was: "You're only as good as your people."

In addition to 21 McDonald's locations, Mr. Krampe was involved with Charley G's and Social Southern Table & Bar. In 2005 he, along with members of his family, became partners in Place de Lafayette, a developer of a number of properties in downtown Lafayette and other locations. Mr. Krampe also created Foreman Oaks Office Park and was involved with the 100 acre Versailles Development in Lafayette. He was a founder and board member of SIDES & Associates, a Lafayette-based communications firm.

Mr. Krampe was recognized as an innovative and driving force within the Lafayette and Acadiana business community. He was named by Jr. Achievement of Acadiana as a 2013 Business Laureate Inductee. He received the Success Award from the Upper Lafayette Economic Development Foundation. He received the ABIZ award for Exemplary Achievement and General Excellence in Business and his company was included in Acadiana's Top 50 Privately Held Companies for many years.

As important and significant as his business achievements were, Mr. Krampe believed strongly in giving back to the community which had given so much to him and his family. Community leadership and sharing his talents and treasures with others were foundations for his success. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lafayette General Medical Center and Lafayette General Health System. He served on the board of directors of Lafayette Health Ventures and IBERIABANK. He served as a past chairman of the Education Committee of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Distributive Education Board. Mr. Krampe was also a longtime supporter of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Boy's and Girl's Clubs, Acadiana Symphony, Healing House, and Miles Perret Cancer Services.

Mr. Krampe is survived by his loving wife Cindy; his sons and their wives E.J. and Daphne, Chris and Chrissy, Marc and Jennifer; his daughter Robin and her husband Jody Ferguson, and his step-daughters and their husbands Tiffany and Dax Douet and Kristi and Corey Babineaux. One of Mr. Krampe's biggest joys in life were his grandchildren. He loved creating fun and memories for Grant, Bennett, Hannah, Nevaeh, Grason, Andrew, Kate, Madelyn, Ashlyn, Emersyn, Jude, Shelbi, Abigail, Anna Grace and Ridge. He is also survived by four sisters

Mary Ann Thompson and Helen Paulus of Piqua, Ohio; Cathy Krampe of Lecheria, Venezuela; and Barbara Johnson and her husband Ben of New Orleans; and one brother Paul Krampe and his wife Teri Fitzgibbons of San Diego, California. Mr. Krampe was preceded in death by his parents Edward J. Krampe and Marie Koon Krampe of Piqua, Ohio.

Friends will be received at Martin & Castille Funeral Home on St. Landry in Lafayette on Sunday October 25, 2015 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a Rosary at 7:00pm, and Monday October 26, 2015 from 10:00am until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ed's memory to the Lafayette General Foundation.
