Joachim Chachere Obituary

Joachim Richard Chachere, Jr.

LAFAYETTE - Joachim Richard Chachere, Jr., 72, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his residence in Lafayette.

He is survived by one sister, Celia C. Foard and her husband, Thomas H. Foard; one brother, John Michael Chachere, Sr.; his namesake and special nephew, Richard Foard as well as several nieces and nephews; his dog, Sammie and his four cats.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joachim Richard Chachere, Jr. was born in Opelousas, Louisiana to Helen Beaullieu Chachere and Joachim Richard Chachere, Sr.,on February 18, 1940. After high school studies at Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois, Mr. Chachere attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he served as Freshman Class President. During that time, he also made great use of the rich cultural scene of New York City, especially the art museums, Broadway and the musical theater.

He entered the seminary and studied at the North American College in Rome, Italy during the four years of the 2nd Vatican Council. He was an eyewitness to history-in-the-making- Pope John XXIII's "aggiornamento," "The opening of the windows"- and to the fall of the Berlin Wall. He later was a personal consultant to Josef Cardinal Suenes in Belgium, traveling extensively with him to many countries.

In 1978 Mr. Chachere began his practice in Jungian-oriented therapy, following his own work with John Sanford, Helen Luke and Morton Kelsey. Shortly thereafter, he founded The Acadian Friends of Jung, a lively center of analytical work and friendship where individuals go to find their own introverted centers. He has lectured extensively since that time and the themes of this work found their way into print. He was an author of Legends of the Fall, American Beauty and other pending works and was also a licensed Professional Counselor. Mr. Chachere enjoyed listening to classical music, was a collector of art and was the founder of Friends of Jung. He loved nature, was a rosarian and was especially connected with his love of Cypermort Point. Mr. Chachere will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

I am so sorry I didn't get to talk to Richard, my cousin, one more time. It's been years, but I know he would have been fascinating. Peaceful journey, Richard. Perhaps we'll meet again...
