Dr. John Joseph Guidry

RAYNE - Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christain Burial for Dr. John Joseph Guidry, 82, who died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at his residence in Rayne.

Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Rayne, LA.

Surviving are wife, Genevieve Julie Gonsoulin Guidry of Youngsville, one son, Dr. John Charles Guidry and partner Mike Galan of San Antonio, TX, two daughters, Catherine Celise Guidry Hair of Plano, TX and husband Trevor Hair of Gueydan, Dr. Julie Anne Guidry Moulard and husband Scott Moulard of Baton Rouge, four grandchildren, Alexander Armand DuBos of Plano, TX, Jean-Paul Joseph DuBos of Plano, TX, Jenica Candice Guidry of Carencro, Celise Suzette Guidry of Carencro, four sisters, Viola Blanchard of Scott, Ella Mae Foreman of Rayne, Marie Broussard of Rayne, Jeanette Leger and husband Willie of Rayne, one brother, Lawrence Guidry and wife Exaltha of Rayne, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eloi Guidry and Anne Alicia Callier Guidry, one sister, Julia Guidry, and five brothers, Rodney, Harry, Gerald, Dennis and Paul Guidry.

He was born Monday, December 17, 1928 in Rayne, LA, son of the late Eloi Guidry and the late Anne Alicia Callier Guidry.

Dr. Guidry was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Rayne and Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. He received his degree in medicine at Louisiana State University in 1953 and interned at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit. He was a resident practicing physician at Charity hospital in New Orleans before he entered the service.

He served as a Captain in the Army, and was stationed in Formosa (now Taiwan). He survived an attack by Chinese piloted Russian MIGs over disputed waters between Taiwan and China during his service.

Dr. Guidry began his medical practice in Delcambre, Louisiana in 1957. He then established his office in Rayne in 1958 and practiced at the same location for almost 30 years, retiring in 1997. He was also one of the founders/owners of the Rayne Guest Home, Inc.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a past member of the Lions Club. He was on the St. Joseph Parish Council, and a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He served as a delegate for 30 years for Louisiana State Medical Society and was a member of the American Medical Association.

The Family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the sitters and caregivers who assisted in his care this past year.

A rosary will be recited at Friday, February 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m..

Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, LA Friday, February 4, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until service at Gossen Funeral Home Rayne, LA.

Pallbearers will be Dr. John C. Guidry, Alex DuBos, Jean-Paul DuBos, Trevor Hair, Mike Galan and Scott Moulard.

Contributions may be made to the in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, 215 E. Pinhook Road, Lafayette, LA 70501.
