Kathryn DeJean Howard

Lafayette - A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Kathryn Anne DeJean Howard, 44. Kathryn passed away at her home peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 27, 2018. Visitation will be observed on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Martin & Castille - SOUTHSIDE location from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Reverend James Brady, JCL, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Memorial Mass. The Very Reverend Chester C. Arceneaux, VF, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will concelebrate. Inurnment will be in St. John Cemetery.

Kathryn was born on March 19, 1974 to Felix and Carolyne DeJean. She was raised in Opelousas, Louisiana, along with her 4 siblings. On July 6, 1996, she married the love of her life, Jamie Howard. She loved him fiercely to the end. The light of her life are their 4 beautiful children. She raised her daughter, Allyson, to be strong and independent, Meredyth, to be courageous and kind, and Hillary, to be fearless and warm. She raised her son, Walker, to be brave and sincere. They are her greatest gift she leaves this world.

Kathryn is a 1992 graduate of Opelousas Catholic High School and a 1996 graduate of Louisiana State University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

Kathryn had a passion for family, friends, and living every day to its fullest. She was a pillar of strength and faith, continuing to make lasting memories from the Florida Beaches to the Colorado Mountains. Kathryn was a beautiful soul, with a smile that was infectious and a laugh that was contagious. She was humble, she was kind, and the impact she made on anyone who knew her is a testament to her character and compassion. Kathryn brought out the best in everyone and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Kathryn is survived by her husband James Walker Howard III; their 4 children Allyson Anne Howard, Meredyth Paige Howard, James Walker Howard IV, and Hillary Claire Howard; her parents Felix "Grem" DeJean III and Carolyne Dunbar DeJean; her brother Felix Andy DeJean IV (Amy); sisters Julie Casanova, Lauren Mouret (Scott), and Jennifer Pressler (Bob); in-laws Dana and Jimmy Howard, Charlotte and Keith Hobgood, Patrick Howard (Joanie), Hunter Howard (Madison); Kathryn is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Carolyne, Katelyn, Lindsey, and Laura Casanova; Scotty, Nicholas, Kathryn Camille, and Maddie Rose Mouret; Elizabeth Mouret Duplechain, Quint, William, Jackson, and Annabelle DeJean; Robert and CeCe Pressler; Noah Fonenot; Luke, Annie, Jack, and Mary Madison Howard; and one great niece Libby Tate.

Kathryn is preceded in death and welcomed into the Kingdom of God by grandparents Felix and Mercedes DeJean and R. P. Dunbar, Jr. and Cecelia Daigle Dunbar.

Pallbearers will be Andy DeJean, Patrick Howard, Hunter Howard, Robert "Bob" Pressler, Scott Mouret, David LaFleur, Ben Bordelon, and Mark Hanna.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.

The outpouring of love and support to Kathryn and her family has been a true blessing. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Charlotte Cryer, Mignon Trahan, Joanie Howard, Maegan Hanna, and Cheri Richard; and her medical providers, Our Lady of Lourdes and Heart of Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KATFIGHT Memorial Fund - Keeping Kathryn Howard's legacy of generosity, grace, and spirit alive for generations to come through charitable contributions to cancer patients or those in need.
