Ruby Bernard Obituary
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Ruby B. Bernard, 75, who died on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Lafayette General Medical Center, following a long courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Michael DeBlanc, Associate Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Brandi Schambough Pryor. Jodi Bollich, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace," "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman," "The 23rd Psalm," "I Can Only Imagine," "One Bread, One Body" and "On Eagles' Wings.".
Survivors include her beloved son, Michael K. Bernard and his godchild, Brandi Schambough Pryor; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Lois Laque, Delores Benoit, Belle Prejean and Rose Thibodeaux.
She was preceded in death by Irvin J. Bernard; her parents, Marcellus Broussard and the former Clarice Hebert; her brothers, Robert Broussard and Roy J. Hebert Sr.
Ruby Marie Broussard Bernard was born in Abbeville, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She worked as an operator for South Central Bell, and went on to own and operate Bernard's Office Supply for many years until her retirement. She was a religious loving mother, sister and dear friend to all who knew and loved her, and will be dearly missed.
Pallbearers will be Michael K. Bernard, Wesley Toche III, Daurelle Schambough, Drew Schambough, Nicholas Pryor and Thomas Breaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Laque, Jr., Ryan Laque, Tyrone Jones and Ted Breaux.
A Rosary will be prayed by Sister Laura Melancon on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. John Bernard, Dr. Jay Rao, Dr. Shilpa Chitnis, Dr. Georgia Lea, as well as her long-time RN, Carol Dykes, numerous RN Aides, and her sitters, Patricia Francis, Theresa Burris, Agnes Dupuis, Charlotte Thomas, Melinda Andrus, Geayln Boutin, Linda Handy, Eula Andrus and Jan LeBlanc, for their never ending love, kindness and compassion given to Mrs. Bernard and her family during their time of need.

Sorry for your loss Mike...Though we would never call her Ruby to her face to our little group she was "Ruby" respectfully. She embraced the true meaning of MOM. She will definately be missed.
