Audrey Octave Obituary

Audrey C. Octave entered this earthly life on February 17, 1932, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. James (Eva) Joseph Sr., and she was the third oldest of seven children. She was the mother of a devoted daughter, Dr. Bridget Anne Octave. It was on Thursday, October 10, 2024, she went home to be with the Lord and loved ones who had transitioned before. Audrey was a mentor and teacher to her siblings and cousins from an early age. Audrey was a proud graduate of the 1951 class at Lowery High School, and the 1955 class at Southern University where she graduated with a Bachelor in elementary education. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career at Lowery High School as a fourth-grade teacher and later taught second grade at West Ascension Elementary with a career which spanned 36 years. With a quest for more knowledge, while teaching, Audrey returned to Southern University and received a Master of Education. Later Audrey would continue her learning journey acquiring her +30 from Louisiana State University and Southern University. As a lifelong learner, she also enrolled and attended continuing education workshops from the surrounding universities including Nicholls State. To know Audrey was to love her. She was friendly, assertive, analytical, and original. However, the most impactful quality that we can all agree upon was her humanitarian nature. Audrey never forgot her humble beginnings; nor her desire to always maintain a selfless nature as she prioritized family. Audrey is preceded in death by her loved ones: parents, Mr. And Mrs. James Joseph, Sr., siblings, Mr. Harold Williams, Mr. James Joseph, Jr., Mrs. Bernice Jenkins, and devoted friend, Mr. Woner Singleton. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Dr. Bridget Anne Octave, three sisters, Ms. Evelyn Marie Joseph, Ms. Hazel Yvonne Joseph, Mrs. Carolyn J. Sobers, Houston, TX, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ernestine Joseph, and Mrs. Sylvia Williams, Richmond, CA, adopted sister, Mrs. Catherine Davis, an adoptive loving god-daughter who she reared and treasured as her own, Ms. Pamela A. Joseph-Carey, Baton Rouge, LA, godsons Anthony Varnado, Keith Fortner, Baton Rouge, LA, and Michael Joseph, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, compassionate friends, and the St. Luke A.M.E. family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Visitation Only at St. Luke A.M.E., 300 Oak St., Donaldsonville, LA 70346 on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The Pride of Donaldsonville Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated; Ceremony will be held at 5:00 pm and an Ivy Beyond the Wall Ceremony conducted by members of Tau Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated at 5:30 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at Nelson Chapel A.M.E., 217 Dr. Martin Luther King Dr., Napoleonville, LA 70390 on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation at 9:00 a.m. Interment: Ascension Of Our Lord Catholic Mausoleum, 703 Williams St., Donaldsonville 70346.
