Bill McMillin Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved friend and founder of McMillin Interiors, Bill McMillin. We will remember him for his unrivaled talent, as well as his true love for design. Bill had one of the kindest souls and could light up any room with his smile. His illustrious career spanned 55 years, and his legacy will live on in every home he designed, as well as in McMillin Interiors. As we mourn and pray, we also want to celebrate a life well lived. We know Bill would want to thank each and every person (with a handwritten note) for their kindness and support, especially those who reached out to him over these last few months. Bill will be remembered as being a great friend, mentor, savvy businessman, and an all-around wonderful and generous human being. Bill was born in Welsh, LA on April 15, 1947 and lost his multiyear battle with cancer in Fort Lauderdale, FL on September 29, 2024. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, LA. Bill began his career with Kornmeyer's Furniture in 1970 and became manager of the downtown store at 24 years of age. In 1989, he founded McMillin Interiors and was still buying antiques for the business until a few months prior to his death. Bill is survived by his partner and husband of 33 years, Stephen Robert. He is also survived by his brother, David McMillin (Arnelle) of Baton Rouge and brother, Harvey McMillin (Sue) of Lake Charles and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Dorothy McMillin, sister, Nancy Breaux (Larry), brother, Harry (Jim Guillory) and sister, Marjorie Thillman (Bob). A private service will be held at a later date.

Thinking of Bill this morning literally brought tears to my eyes. I could write a book about the memories I had growing up with Bill. We graduated together from Welch high school and he was the best friend of my lifetime along with our other good friend Kenneth. I love you Bill and will always miss you

Bill was our family's decorator for many years, and an extremely talented one. We always loved visiting his store, as did out children, to whom he was always kind. Bill will be remembered by us as a genuinely fine and generous man. I offer my condolences to his family.

Charles and I knew you and Bill from your years at Martinique on the Gulf. Over the years we would run into him at functions or events in Baton Rouge. He always greeted us with that great smile and seemed genuinely happy to see us. We did not know he had been ill and was shocked by his passing. So very sad to hear of Bill's passing. Grant and I have known him since he helped us furnish our first home many years ago while he worked at Kornmeyer's. He continued to consult with us over the years, and it was always great to catch up with him whenever we saw each other. He will be greatly missed in the Baton Rouge community.
