Edward Daniel II Obituary

A native of West Feliciana Parish and life-long resident, he died peacefully on June 30, 2015. He is survived by a son and his wife, Irv and Betsy Daniel; a daughter and son-in-law, Beryl Gene Daniel and Jerry Kapp; his grandchildren and spouses: Edward I. Daniel, IV and Leslie, Chaillie Percy Daniel and Jeanne, Liz Daniel and Jordan Truitt, Clint and Betsy Hurst, Rob and Lauren Field, Walker and Tonya Field, William and Laura Beth Lott; and Mary Elizabeth Daniel and her partner Carey Perry. He is also survived by twenty one great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Walker Daniel, his parents, Robert Harrison and May Young Daniel of St. Francisville, a sister, Margaret Daniel Rountree, and a brother, Harry Daniel. Ed Daniel earned a BS from LSU in 1939, and after graduation went to work for a vegetable cannery, Princeville Canning Company; from which he retired as Vice President of the Southern Division in 1979. Mr. Daniel was also an avid farmer and rancher throughout his life as well as an active member of several charitable and service organizations including: LSU Alumni Association, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Nature Conservancy of Louisiana, Pennington Research Foundation, Rotary Club of St. Francisville, St. Francisville United Methodist member and Church Council member, Chairman Emeritus Friends of Rosedown, Louisiana Forestry Association, Feliciana Forestry Association, Chamber of Commerce, West Feliciana Historical Society- Board of Directors, West Feliciana Civic Club- Charter Member, LSU Foundation, Louisiana Sweet Potato Association- Past President, Louisiana Sweet Potato Advertising Commission, Louisiana representative of National Potato Promotion Board, Board of Directors of Federal Land Bank, West Feliciana Cattlemen's Association- President, Community Development Foundation- Chairman of the Board, and The Felicianians Dinner Club- Charter Member. In particular, Mr. Daniel was an integral part of accomplishing the purchase of Rosedown Historic Site by the state of Louisiana and was dedicated to its success as an international tourist attraction. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edward I. Daniel, II to the St. Francisville United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 10:00 am at Star Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be seven grandsons: Robert Davis Field, Jr., Walker Magruder Field, William Larry Lott, Jr., Edward Irwin Daniel, IV, Chaillie Percy Daniel, Clinton McKinley Hurst, and Jordan C.
