My family and I offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers to you all. Weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning! When you have done all that you can, the best that you can, as long as you can, with as much love as you can, the rest is in God's hands! With love, time, and prayers, things will get better. May loving lessons and memories comfort and encourage you as you move forward without your father/grandfather/husband/friend & may God bless, comfort, and strengthen you now and always. To see & hear Doc's hard work meticulously executed was always quite enjoyable. His interactions in Baton Rouge & with the Jaguar Nation will be missed. Thank God for his 85-year life with us.

He had the respect of intelligent men and women and the love of so many more...His life was an inspiration;
and His memory a benediction.

Wow Doctor Greggs. As a member of the Notre Dame High School Marching Band in Shreveport, LA, we had the best band in the land. We had you first, and it was all about high stepping and blowing your instrument. There were no "HORN HOLDERS." Thank you for all that you brought to NDHS, we love you and to your family, I think he my be director of that brass band in heaven.

The Comforter is with you.

My parents, both alumni of Southern University, would take me to the football games as a little girl. I did not care about football one bit, but when half-time came, I would take my pom-pom (or shaker), hold it on the top of my head, and in my mind I would transform into a member of the Southern University Human Jukebox from Jaguar Land! Or, I imagined being on the field, dancing like one of the Dolls. I grew to love music because of this early exposure to the band, and I did learn to play the Clarinet along with learning to dance. I'll never forget my dance performance at half-time for homecoming. I went on to receive a scholarship in Music at Xavier University, but I would return home on game weekends to see the band with the "S" on their chest. Doc, THANK YOU for your legacy and your love. You will be remembered.

I grew up in the stands dancing and jamming to the Human Jukebox. I attended SU and continued to jam to the sounds of the Human Jukebox. I have taken my kids to the Bayou Classic and Homecoming to hear the Human Jukebox. Doc Greggs your legacy has carried on for generations and will continue to carry on. Thank you for what you did for SU. Your Homegoing celebration was just like your band, "Often imitated but Never Duplicated". May God bless and comfort the family during this time. You do not celebrate or grieve alone. The SU Family is here with you and we love you.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Dr. Greggs when I was in the band at LSU. He came to one of our rehearsals, conducted us in song or two, and then chatted with us afterward. He was such a CLASS ACT--a true genius, but so humble about it. Without Doc, there would be no Human Jukebox. He did a lot to bring pride and attention to the Southern University music department, Southern University, and Baton Rouge. He will be missed by more people than you can imagine because he touched that many lives in his special way.

As a little girl growing up in Scotlandville behind Scott's Bluff, every Saturday I would sit outside and wait to hear the band for the games because I heard them all week practice. My dad would say "Baby girl that's Doc directing that band". When finally attending Southern, Dr. Greggs always had a smile but gave the guys hell. He will be greatly missed by his Jaguar Nation Family. Take your rest Doc and know music in bands across America is because of you.

Mrs. Greggs, Audree, Colette, Dedrick, and Mark,
I want to be numbered among the many who appreciate you sharing the "gift" in the person of "Dr. Isaac B. Greggs." My parents affectionately referred to him as "Patty." My brother, Don, had the opportunity to play under him at SU Lab before he went on to the university. I take away from "Doc" his attention to detail and respect for precision: nothing done "halfway" was acceptable. The proof is in the legacy of showmanship/discipline/talent that is the Southern University Marching Band. Again, thank you for sharing him with us.

It is with deep and heartfelt sympathy that I pen this message. I can remember the summer of 1949 when my late brother, George L. Moody, Sr. and I were studying in Chicago and who would cross the street but Greggs. He visited Bethel AME Church with us on occasions. George and Greggs were in the marching band together. George, Jr. was a member of Mr. Greggs band, Sarah Moody Thomas and Yvette Moody were dancing dolls with the band. He was one of a kind. He was one of the best known persons at Southern University. May God shower you, his family and the S.U. family and friends, with love .

Doctor Greggs life, career and persona served as a symbol of pride and glory for the Southern University family throughout the world.
During my SU days our motto was "we may lose a football game but never a battle of the bands." Doc & his band performances made homecomings so very special. I have indelible memories of him getting out of a limo at halftime, dressed in a white tux & tails, directing the band to Beethoven's 5th or the fist time the band formed the game score. WOW!!
There was so much to admire; his dogged determination, his hard work, ingenuity, his wit & humor, his ease and grace.
Thanks Doc so much for giving more than what was required and caring more than was expected,
RIP Your legacy will live forever!!
