FUNERAL HOME
Rabenhorst Funeral Homes East
11000 Florida Boulevard
Baton Rouge, LA
November 29, 1945 - December 14, 2016. Jackie Kroll Reine passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2016 after a brave, three year battle with cancer. She passed away in the comfort of her home while surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends. A special thank you goes out to all the family and friends that helped in her final days. Jackie maintained an endless faith in God, which provided her with inspiring strength and grace in the face of illness. Jackie was born in Louisville, Mississippi, but lived in Baton Rouge her whole life. Jackie graduated from Redemptorist High School, then earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Louisiana State University, then earned several certifications in Special Education. After college, she became a special education school teacher. She conveyed unyielding dedication to the students she taught for over forty years. She spent over twenty years teaching for the Catholic School System at St. Agnes, with her last five years as principal. She then spent over twenty years teaching in the East Baton Rouge School System where she retired. Teaching Special Ed was her true passion and she was a true servant leader. She loved her students and coworkers dearly. She was always kind and always listening. She provided constant support to colleagues, students, family, and friends. She never has a disparaging word for or about anyone. Family was also very important to Jackie. We like to consider her a great unifier. Spending time in the kitchen, having a cup of Community Coffee with her family and friends, was her favorite place to be. In recent years, she picked up quilting. She found a great group of friends that she enjoyed quilting with every week. She cherished them dearly. Jackie is survived by her husband Darrell Reine of thirty-four years, son Benjamin Joel Reine, daughter Jennifer Reine Baker, son-in-law Mark Baker, sister-in-law Penny Gaspard Kroll, and niece (also godchild) Erin Kroll Lightheart, and other numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael Kroll, her mother Virginia Kroll, and father Max Kroll. There will be a wake and visitation services held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Florida Blvd on Sunday, December 18, 2016, from 5pm until 9pm. There will be a mass held at St. Thomas More Church on Monday at 11am, with visitation at 9:30am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

Dear Family, I am so very sorry to hear this news. Jackie was a wonderful soul and great volunteer in my Read 180 class at Broadmoor High. Her heart for children was so evident. I loved catching up when we bumped into each other at the grocery store. Such a positive person! My thoughts and prayers are with you. Mary Beth Fesmire

Jackie, I've known you all my life. You've been there through my small child years, the difficult teen years and the actual grown up years...and you haven't changed. That calmness, gentle tone of voice and teaching demeanor has always settled whatever "wild child" vibe I had at the time. You will always be loved and missed. Give Troy, Tuffy, Uncle Max and Michael hugs from me. I love you.

My husband and I were honored to spend several Thanksgiving Day celebrations with Jackie, Daryl at the Tim and Teresa Browning's home in Metairie. She could not have been a finer, more loving lady. She was highly educated and had a heart of gold. She fought her cancer with grace and dignity. She was a joy to be around, always sharing stories of her wonderful years spent in education. The world has lost a beautiful soul but, her entry into heaven is definitely unquestionable. Fondly, Bob and Phyllis Browning

Darrell, Penny, and Families,
I am so sorry to hear of your great loss. Many years have passed but I remember fondly my warm and welcoming Shelley Street home away from home. Jackie and Mama Kroll spent many hours around that kitchen table feeding me and Mike's friends and serving up bottomless pitchers of iced tea.
I'm pleased to see that her obituary so clearly depicts her life of unselfish service and love as that is the way I have always remembered Jackie and her smile.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,
Myron & Robin

To the entire Reine family,

Mrs. Reine was one of the first teachers to welcome me to Istrouma when I started teaching SPED in 2006. She was the nicest and most accommodating of all of my coworkers; she never told me "no." She taught me how to care for "our" students and to never take anything personal that they said or did. She was our "lead" teacher and well-respected by everyone on that campus. My heart is so very sad right now! Rosalind and I have truly been blessed because "Miss" Reine crossed our paths, we will never forget her! Family, please lean on the Lord during this difficult time and He will give you all the strength needed to get through this! Wow, just, wow!
