Jere Price Obituary

Jere was born on September 1, 1924 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Elise Golden Price and Earl Alexander Price. He departed this world to join his Lord and Savior on November 29, 2018 surrounded in love by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen and his children and grandchildren. A native of Baton Rouge, Jere attended Baton Rouge High School and graduated in 1941. After one year at LSU, Jere enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1943-1945 in Europe. After completing his service, he was discharged as a Sergeant with a Good Conduct Medal, an American Defense Service Medal and a WWII Victory Medal. Jere returned to LSU on the GI Bill and graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1949. While working in New Orleans for Shell Oil Company, he met his future wife Mary Ellen Clements where she was also employed. The two married in Baton Rouge in 1952. Jere and Mary Ellen started their own business in 1955 along with another partner. They soon bought out the partner, but the business maintained the name of Moody-Price, Inc. as it is still known today. Moody-Price Inc. became a leader in the Industrial Instrumentation Industry servicing the oil refineries across a six-state area. Jere supported his business community by being a charter member of The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, a member of Rotary Club and The Baton Rouge Area Foundation. In 1986, Jere sold the business to one of his long-time employees, Mr. Dan Daniels, and began a long and fun-filled retirement with Mary Ellen. Some of their favorite places to visit were New York City and Las Vegas, but his favorite place of all was Pensacola Beach, Florida where they had a beach home. Nothing gave Jere more joy than sharing his love for beach life with his friends and family. When home in Baton Rouge, Jere spent his time at Sherwood Forest Country Club playing golf and cards with his buddies. He also loved working in his garden and feeding the birds. His love of nature has been passed on to his children. Most importantly, he spent as much time as he could with his wife, children and grandchildren. In 2014, Jere and Mary Ellen moved into St. James Place in Baton Rouge. Since March of 2016, Jere was under the amazing and wonderful care of Hospice of Baton Rouge. A special thank you to the nurses, caregivers and special angels at St. James Place who lovingly cared for dad over the past 3 years. It tremendously improved the quality of his life while he was there. Jere is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Price; sons, Jere Kenwood Price Jr and wife Cassie Price, and Gregory Brian Price; daughters, Leigh Ellen Price Shafer and husband Duane Shafer, and Paula Price Cahill and husband Mike Cahill; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and special friend Ms. Martha Robertson. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl Price Jr.; and lifelong friend, Dr. Leon Bombet. Visitation will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 9:00 am until a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: James Price, Chandler Price, Brad Shafer, Duane Shafer, Russell Golden, and Mike Cahill. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Baton Rouge and or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dear Mrs. Mary Ellen and family,

Please accept our most sincere and deepest sympathy in the passing of Mr. Jere. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Mr. Jere was a fine, kind, and upstanding man. My mother and father (both deceased) thought the "world" of you and Mr. Jere and cherished your friendship. May you find peace and comfort in the care and prayers of others during this difficult time.

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Sad to hear of Jere's passing. He and Mary Ellen will always be family to me and my family. Being the second person hired by Jere in 1956 I have been blessed to have received so much honesty, integrity, and professionalism from him through the years. When Jere sold the company to me in 1956 my goal was to continue what I had learned from him and today as we continue to grow I never forget how much I owe to Jere. God bless Mary Ellen and the entire Price family
