John Daniel Obituary

After courageously battling cancer for more than eleven years, John L. Daniel, Jr. passed away October 18, 2021, and is now at peace in his heavenly home. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and also to so many, a dear friend, mentor, and role model. He helped countless professionals of all ages to start or excel in their careers with his extensive business knowledge. So many have expressed that he was "such a good man." John L. was born on May 8, 1955. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debbie Devall Daniel, Melissa Daniel (daughter), Trey Daniel (son), Trey's family including Meredith (wife), Sabrina and Beckett Daniel (children/grandchildren), his mother Josie Fourrier Daniel, Jason Bargas (nephew), Sandy Pomes (mother-in-law), and Jack Devall (father-in-law), and countless other Louisiana relatives. He was a lifelong, respected banker and devoted Catholic High School and LSU Alumnae, avid hunter, golfer, and LSU Tiger Fan. John L. served this community in innumerable ways as a loyal supporter/member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club, Tiger Athletic Foundation, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Baton Rouge Crimestoppers, Manresa House of Retreats, Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, Baton Rouge Gallery, and the City Club of Baton Rouge, just to name a few. He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Daniel, Sr., his sister, Johnice Daniel, and his brother-in-law, Brett Devall. We are thankful to Dr. Gerald Miletello and staff of the Hematology Oncology Clinic of Baton Rouge for their compassionate care throughout all these years. A Memorial Service and Celebration Life are scheduled for Tuesday, November 23, 2021, with further details to follow. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Catholic High School, Cancer Services of Baton Rouge, or Hospice of Baton Rouge.

John was a co-worker and dear friend. I moved to Lafayette several years ago and didn't hear about his passing until recently. I am deeply saddened. He had a kind spirit that I will always remember.

I was so sad to learn of John L's passing. But at the same time, I know that he is now in God's hands because of the person that he was. Always smiling and pleasant. I wish that I had spent more time with him after CHS graduation. God be with Debbie and all of the family that will miss him!

I´m so very sorry for your loss and continue prayers for your family. What a pleasure it was to work with John L over the years when I was at the Catholic Life Center. He always had a smile and his easy-going style always made any conversation or meeting easy, professional, and he made everyone feel like his top priority -he exuded his faith & I always considered him a special friend. May perpetual light shine upon him and may you all find peace and comfort in God´s loving hands

What a man. I was privileged to call him a best friend for over 60 years. Anytime you were around John L. and his family growing up, they put you at ease and made you feel like they were glad that you were there. He carried that forward to his own great family. I've never known a better man. Rest well my brother and save me a spot in the LSU section. I KNOW you have connections up there as well.

So sorry to hear of this. Uncle Johnny, John L's dad was only 6 years older than my dad, Russell Daniel, and they more like brothers. As the remaining eldest member of the Russell Daniel family, I offer our condolences and prayers.

Many years of great memories sitting next to John L. at The Box and being entertained by his corny jokes and funny stories. A gracious Southern gentleman to the core with an unshakeable love for family, friends, LSU, & Baton Rouge, he was always a joy with which to spend time. He will be greatly missed by our family and many more. Prayers of comfort and peace for all who knew him well.
