John McCarroll Obituary

McCarroll, John A. A resident of Baton Rouge, he died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, after fighting a hard but very courageous battle with cancer. He was 71 and a native of Trout. He retired in 1984 from the Louisiana Department of Public Works after 30 years of service and was a professional land surveyor until his death. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and resumes Wednesday, March 1, from 10 a.m. until service at 2 p.m., conducted by Deacon Brent Duplessis. Graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Left to grieve his passing and celebrate his life are his adoring wife of 20 years, Mary Hyatt McCarroll; two daughters and a son-in-law, Freddie Sr. and Lori Miller and Jeannie Marquis; two stepsons, David and Steven Guidry; seven grandchildren, Karli Worthy, Freddie Miller Jr., and Zane, Chloe, Mason, Ali and Katie Marie Guidry; stepmother, Jessie B. Thompson; and all of his wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Sam A. McCarroll; and mother, Ora T. McCarroll. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but more importantly, a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He never met a stranger, and was known for his ready smile and ability to charm and delight others with jokes and stories. He had a kind and gentle heart and helped everyone he could. His adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew him. Pallbearers will be Phil Marzloff, Rusty Genola, Mike Lynn, Sid Garrison, and David and Steven Guidry. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Miller Sr., John Henry Carroll, Buzz Horsfall, Joe Jacobson, Harry Lee Smith and Homer Lindley. His family will forever be indebted to all his friends for their loving care, friendship, help and concern. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation and admiration to Dr. Bryan Bienvenu, whom John called "a prince" for his compassionate care during his extended battle, and to Hospice of Baton Rouge for their devotion in his final days.
