John Meyer, Jr. Obituary

John Bennard "J.Ben" Meyer, Jr., age 90, a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully on June 30, 2017. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. J.Ben was a charter member of St. Thomas More Parish, past president of The Holy Name Society, Eucharistic Minister, member of the Knights of Columbus, STM Bereavement Ministry, Nursing Home Communion Service and a Voluntary Catholic Chaplain at Angola State Penitentiary since 1996. J.Ben was Maritime Service and Merchant Marine during WWII. He was 1st Lieutenant in the USAF during the Korean War. J.Ben graduated in Electrical Engineering from LSU. He spent 26 years in Louisiana State Government and then several years in Baton Rouge City Government. He is survived by Joyce, his wife of 64 years; his three loving children, Ben Meyer III, Tom Meyer and wife Betty, and Mary Margaret Meyer Hathway and husband John; his sister, Peggy Meyer Horchoff of Abita Springs, Louisiana; his 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. J.Ben is preceded in death by his loving daughter of 26 years, Jeanne Meyer Carter. Services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge on Wednesday, July 5, beginning with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:00am, followed by visitation and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, Fr. Frank Uter and Fr. Eddie Martin will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 1647 Convention Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.

Joyce,
Peter and I are out of town. So sorry we missed J Ben's funeral and seeing you, Market, Ben and Tommy and their families.
Will always be grateful to J Ben's beautiful, strong faith that was instrumental in Daddy entering the priesthood.

Sorry to hear of Ben's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Ben for a number of years and was a dear friend but, most of all he was a good man. RIP

I knew J. Ben only as my replacement at Adoration Chapel and quickly realized, from the few words exchanged, here is a perfect gentleman.
Joyce, you must be very proud of your lifetime partner. Each time I visit t he Chapel, a prayer will be offered for your intentions.
