John Bennard "J. Ben" Meyer, Jr.

John Bennard "J.Ben" Meyer, Jr., age 90, a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully on June 30, 2017. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. J.Ben was a charter member of St. Thomas More Parish, past president of The Holy Name Society, Eucharistic Minister, member of the Knights of Columbus, STM Bereavement Ministry, Nursing Home Communion Service and a Voluntary Catholic Chaplain at Angola State Penitentiary since 1996. J.Ben was Maritime Service and Merchant Marine during WWII. He was 1st Lieutenant in the USAF during the Korean War. J.Ben graduated in Electrical Engineering from LSU. He spent 26 years in Louisiana State Government and then several years in Baton Rouge City Government. He is survived by Joyce, his wife of 64 years; his three loving children, Ben Meyer III, Tom Meyer and wife Betty, and Mary Margaret Meyer Hathway and husband John; his sister, Peggy Meyer Horchoff of Abita Springs, Louisiana; his 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. J.Ben is preceded in death by his loving daughter of 26 years, Jeanne Meyer Carter. Services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge on Wednesday, July 5, beginning with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:00am, followed by visitation and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, Fr. Frank Uter and Fr. Eddie Martin will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home.
