Joseph Irwin Waguespack Sr.

Joseph Irwin Waguespack Sr., age 89, of Destrehan passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Red Church Council 3634, The American Legion River Road Post 366, and the Men of Manresa. Irwin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tennessee during WWII. He served as the Chief of Police with the St. Charles Parish Sherriff's Office. He retired after many years from the St. Charles Parish Public Works as a Superintendent over the East Bank Yard. He was a loving husband of the late Mary Grace Portera Waguespack. He is survived by four children: Timothy Sr. (Tina M.), Paul (Mary H.), Kerry Sr. (Donna P.), and Perry; 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two siblings: James "Deebie" and Velma "Pie" Boudreaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benoit and Louise Roussel Waguespack; five siblings: Mildred Amedee, Edna Mae Guidry, Lester "Bill", Mary Ruth Christina and Maurice "Mackey"; also two sons: Joseph "Joey" and Barry John. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a man who poured out his life in service to others. In his younger days he played semi-pro baseball and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A special thanks to the Senior Citizen Center in New Sarpy, for being a comforting place for him to spend time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a night wake at St. Charles Borromeo in Destrehan, LA, on Wednesday, January 7, 2015m from 6:00 PM-10:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, January 8, 2015, from 9:00 AM-11:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.
