Lizzie Summerell Obituary

Lizzie Theodora Seyfarth Summerell 'Dora' passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Born on April 3, 1926, in Waterproof, LA, to Oscar Theodore Seyfarth and Lizzie Arminta Downard Seyfarth, she was 13th of the 16 Seyfarth siblings who grew up in the Natchez, MS, area. After her marriage to Lester Summerell in 1946, Dora and Lester moved from Ferriday, LA, to Clinton, LA, and then Baton Rouge, LA, where they raised their children and lived the rest of their lives. After working years as a bookkeeper, Dora enrolled at LSU and graduated in 1976. She became a CPA and after a few years had a practice of her own from which she retired. Always committed to her faith, Dora was a supporting member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, then Covenant Presbyterian Church and finally Faith Presbyterian Church, serving in many roles, from Sunday School teacher to Deacon. Dora was an active member of the National Association of Women in Construction, an organization for women who own or are employed in the construction field. She served as President and as a director of the local chapter. Dora also served as a volunteer teacher for Operation Upgrade, an adult education program. Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester, and a cherished granddaughter, Lauren Egedy. She is survived by her four children: Jack Summerell (Denise), Lynn Droescher (Carlos), Karen Egedy (Charles, deceased), and Lisa Keeley (Michael); eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. After a private service, Dora was laid to rest next to Lester on December 1, 2023. Plans for a memorial service are incomplete at this time.
