1931 - 2023

Mary Helen Smith Charleville, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and retired teacher passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at West Towne Assisted Living Community in Port Allen, at the age of 92. Mary Helen spent her childhood in Sunrise, La and then became a lifelong resident of Port Allen. She was a member of the West Baton Rouge Presbyterian Church. Mary Helen retired from Holy Family Catholic School after more than 25 years of teaching. She was a founding member of Modernaires Dance Club, member of Lucky Seven Club Dinner Club and member of Port Allen Bridge Group. Mary Helen was a talented artist. She enjoyed camping and loved to read. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 16th, at West Baton Presbyterian Church, 640 Florida Avenue, Port Allen, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Elder Paddy Arnold. Entombment will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Mausoleum in Brusly. Mary Helen is survived by her son, Mark Charleville (Debra); three daughters, Carol Hernandez (Ben), Beth Bonanno (Keith) and Jan Falcon; four grandchildren, Judd Daigle-Bouy, Dustin Bonanno (Angeline), Hollie Williams (Brent) and Hunter Falson (Amy); three great-grandchildren, Jaina Bonanno, Maci Williams and Bree Williams. Mary Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, James "Jim" C. Charleville; her parents, Oswald and Helen Armstrong Smith; two siblings, Pat Arnold and Bobbye Hay.
