Myrtis Giroir Obituary

Myrtis Leblanc Giroir, a resident of a Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 24, 2019. She was 84 years old. Myrtis was called home to be with the Lord after battling pancreatic and liver cancer since Mother's Day of 2018. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Danette and Ronald Legendre; her grandchildren and their wives, Ladd and Abby Legendre and Brant and Brittney Legendre; and her two great-grandchildren Landon and Harper Legendre. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Aimee Leblanc; her husband Robert Anthony Giroir; and her son, Robert "Robbie" Anthony Giroir, Jr. Known by Nana to her family, she was the best mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family. Within 8 months in 2018, she lost her husband and her son. Her faith was un-wavered. She battled her illness with unmeasurable strength. She was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to many. Myrtis was a kind, generous and faithful servant. She was a pillar in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church community where she was loved by so many. She retired at 79 years old from the Louisiana Department of Treasury and the Louisiana Department of Tourism. She loved her job at the State Capitol and cherished the friends she made during that time. Myrtis was a 1952 graduate of St Anthony High School in Baton Rouge. She kept in touch with her classmates even after all these years. Pallbearers will be her son in law, who was more like another son to her, Ronald Legendre; grandsons, Ladd and Brant Legendre; great-grandson, Landon Legendre; and family members Jesse, Jason and Joel Galatas and Kevin Hoffield. Visitation will be held Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Tuesday March 26, 2019 from 9am until Mass of Cristian burial at 10:30am. Entombment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

Ma. Myrtis was one of the kindest, most caring people I've ever known. I met her in 1979 when she was working at the Treasurer's office and I was auditing their records. We developed a friendship there and she even organized a surprise bridal shower for me in the office! Our paths crossed continually when we both worked for DCRT. I would run into her at Mass at the Cathedral or at the State Capital where she worked. She would always have a kind word and we'd catch up on one another's lives. I took my grandson to visit the Capital last week and learned that Ms. Myrtis had passed away. What a great loss. She was truly a special lady and has earned her place in heaven. May God comfort her family.

I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Myrtis. She was a wonderful woman. It seems like so long ago but I remember she and Mr. Bob well. Always so kind, always so gentle and friendly. The world could use more people like her and Mr. Bob.

Ms. Myrtis was such a kind and gentle lady. My mother, Mamie Bourgeois, was a friend of hers through St. Anthony, and no matter where our paths crossed, she greeted you with that sweet smile. May you rest in peace as you are reunited with your husband and son. God bless each of you.

Danette and Family,
Not sure if you'll remember Danette, but my Mom and yours were very good friends for many years. Worked together in the Treasurer's office. Mom was Kathryn Hare Fortenberry. Last saw your Mom at my mother's funeral in 2015. So very sorry for your loss / remember Ms. Myrtis fondly as such a sweet lady!
