Nancy Porter-Steele Obituary

Nancy Porter-Steele, 92, of Halifax, NS, passed away with her husband Curtis Steele on January 25, 2024. Nancy was born in Denver, CO on October 15, 1931, followed by sister Anne Westing and brother Russ. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Heym and grandchildren Catie Heym and Nathaniel Maier, and her son Bob Heym (Sharon) and grandsons Blake, Kyle, and Jake Heym. She was preceded in death by first husband George Heym. Nancy attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and graduated with distinction and at the top of her class from the Syracuse School of Architecture in 1959. She practiced as an architect in Baton Rouge, LA, her most notable achievement as Chief Architect of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. She obtained her PhD in Psychology from International College in 1982. Nancy and Curtis married in 1973 and maintained individual and joint professional mental health practices, relocating to San Diego, CA in 1981 and Halifax, NS in 1988. They devoted their lives to the well-being of others through exploring and teaching innovative mental health modalities. Nancy and Curtis were laid to rest in the Sunrise Park Inter-Faith Green Burial Cemetery in Hatchet Lake, NS.
