Nancy Whitlatch Obituary

Nancy Adams Whitlatch, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at Amber Terrace on June 14, 2017 at the age of 91. Nancy was born to the late Dwight "Babe" Adams and Margaret "Tykie" Naylor Adams in Tientsin, China in 1926 where her father was serving as a U.S. Army Officer. She graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Virginia. She worked as a secretary in London for the American Ambassador to England, while her husband attended Oxford University. After England, she moved to Baton Rouge, LA which became her permanent home. She always wanted 6 children and they were blessed to have her as their mother. She is survived by those 6 children, Marsha Braud (Terry), Blake Whitlatch, Linda Barrow (David), Claire Wilson (Stephen), Paige Burchfield (Stephen), and Gray Whitlatch; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Dwight "Hooper" Adams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Bucky" Whitlatch; brother, William "Bill" Adams; grandson, Van Andrew Wilson; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Whitlatch. She was well known for her sense of humor, was a voracious reader and enjoyed her bridge group. She traveled all over the country with her husband, which she enjoyed tremendously. Known at Amber Terrace as "Fancy Nancy", she was a bright light to all who knew her there and the family would like to thank the staff in the Memory Lane Unit for their compassionate care for Nancy. Also, a special thanks to Bridgeway Hospice. It was her wish to have a family gathering of remembrance which will be held at Fort DeSoto at a future date.

Dear Marsha, Blake, Linda, Claire, Paige and Gray,

I was so sorry and saddened to hear about the passing of your sweet mother. She was such a good friend and neighbor to my mother, Louise Lewis. Miss Nancy would come over and visit often, and I always enjoyed her visits. She was so much fun and was such a special lady who loved life. I have so many wonderful memories of your family and babysitting for all of you. Please know your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Virginia Lewis Walker

Your mother, Nancy, lived across the street from my mother, Louise Lewis, for many years, and was a wonderful neighbor. You may remember that I babysat all six children, and later my sister, Virginia, did. My sincerest sympathies are with you during this difficult time. Your mother was a wonderful lady, full of strength and goodness. She will be missed.

So sorry for the passing of Mrs. Whitlatch. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Whitlatch family.

Though I never met Mrs. Whitlatch, Blake, her son and my very good friend and brother in Christ, always spoke highly of her. I am sure she currently dwells in the presence of her Savior - The Lord Jesus Christ. In Heaven, there is no more pain, sorrow or death.

I always have sweet memories of your mom and dad at Dr. Bacot's office. They both were special people and a joy to know. My prayer is that you will cherish the precious memories you made with your sweet mother and that you will find peace in Christ as you mourn her passing. In Christ's love,
