Pat and I want to express our deepest sympathies to Ray's family. He was a First Lieutenant when I joined the Donaldsonville unit in 1960. We served together until he moved on the the headquarters unit and I to the Plaquemine unit. We again served very close when he became Battalion Commander of the 769th Engr Bn and I was his Command Sergeant Major. I learned a lot from his service and knowledge of the military. He wasn't only a comrade in arms, but became a very good friend. You couldn't help but like Ray, when business had to be done, it was, but whenever he could pull one of his pranks on someone, even if it was on you, you had to love him. As much as the family, he will be greatly missed by all of his friends. May God bless Ray for the person he was; son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and last but not least as one of the best soldiers I have ever served with.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I know it is difficult to say good-bye, but I also know "Raisin Bread" is in a better place with a whole new set of folks to share his corny jokes with. I will never forget the fun and patient teachings I had the great pleasure of receiving from this rare and unforgetable man. With Love, Hi-Lo

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember our time in Germany when I was so sick and Ray took care of me. Our prayers are with you and the family.

Jan and I want to express our deepest sympathy to Ray's family and friends. Ray and I served together in the Louisiana National Guard in the 769th Engineer Battalion from 1970 to 1979. Ray was a professional Soldier. He took care of business and cared deeply, always put the best interest of the Soldier first; I learned a lot from Ray. He was my mentor and I thought the world of him. We would have lunch 2 - 3 times a week to discuss military matters and engineer projects. Ray was a fun-loving person, had a great sense of humor, loved a good time and had a deep love for his family. He firmly believed, “When we work, we work; when we play, we play and we always know the difference.”
