John Edwards Obituary

EDWARDS, JOHN DANIEL

John Daniel Edwards (J.D.) passed away November 22, 2012 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL.

J.D. Edwards was born October 25, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. He received degrees from Eastern Michigan University, The University of Michigan and Central Michigan University. He was a member of Phi Gamma Mu. He taught many years in the Detroit School System and finished his last 12 years at Grosse Pointe North High School, teaching Biology and Advanced Biology, and coaching track and cross country. In 1979, he was elected to the Michigan Cross Country Coach's Hall of Fame.

J.D. was a World War II Naval Seabee veteran and served 30 months in the South Pacific.

J.D. and his wife Betty retired in 1980 to Gainesville, Florida where he taught biology at the community college for several years. He also learned to fly and they enjoyed traveling in their Cessna 172 for over 10 years.

J.D. is survived by Betty, his wife of 61 years; a daughter, Patricia Bauer of Scottsdale, AZ; a son, John M. Edwards of Herndon, VA; a sister, Marion Jones of Dowagiac, MI and three grandsons, Gregory Bauer of Enfield, CT and Sean and Alex Edwards of Marietta, GA.

He will be buried at the National Military Cemetery at Bushnell, FL. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
