David and Daniel, I've not seen you since y'all were small, but I now grieve with you and yours. Our world has need of humble Christian warriors like your dad, and our schools have need of such teachers who know that God's creation is a study in miracles. Raymond was/is an inspiration.
SIDE NOTE: In the early 1980s, as I was about to enter college at La Tech with no clue how to study, I asked Raymond how he did it. In less than five minutes, he explained the method he used to earn his 4.0 GPA. Raymond's study method served me well in college and beyond, and those interested may find my description of it by following this link:

When I was in the 10th grade at University High back in 1983, Raymond Minchew influenced me profoundly and changed my trajectory in life. Before his class, science was not cool. Afterwards, science was the coolest thing in the world. I remember the insect collections, the plant collection and all the other cool things he had us do. The bees, the Guinea pigs that squealed sporadically during class, the fish, the hamsters and how he loved nature.
He had us dissect cow eyes and I loved it. Little did I know that I would go on to become an ophthalmologist and his class was the first exposure I had to an eye.
I realized, with his insistence, that I was smart. He was the best teacher I ever had, and that is saying a lot. I attended 6 great schools including Louisiana State University, Harvard, Louisiana State University Medical School and residency at Ochsner. I was exposed to lots of great professors but none could compare to Mr. Minchew. He is legend.
I attribute my success to him and I am so thankful that he helped me realize my potential. I love Mr. Minchew!!!!
A very appreciative former student!

Daniel, Tony and I were saddened by the news of your father's sudden passing. I know you will miss him greatly. It's clear to us how much love and respect you always had for him, and I'm sure he felt it, too. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this time and the coming days as well.

I can honestly say that mr munches was ahead of his time as an educator . He was an inspiration to all. His love of science and of humanity was evident throughout his life. Rest in peace Mr, Minchew

Mr. Minchew was the first to inspire my love of science in general and biology in particular. He was the first to introduce the physiology I use on a daily basis as an Intensive Care Unit physician. He was the first that set me on the path to medicine, and he inspired with his gift for teaching and encouragement. He remains one of the favorite teachers I've ever had, and I've had a few. I'll always be grateful for the excitement he inspired for science and for learning. My prayers will be with his family in their time of loss. May God grant them peace.

He was one of my favorite teachers, and I loved his class. He was one of the reasons I became a teacher. I also babysat for David and Daniel several times as well, and it was obvious how much he loved God and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
