Roger Sylvanus "Pepop" Williams Jr.

Roger Williams Obituary

A resident of Baton Rouge, he was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on May 11, 1918, to Roger Sylvanus Williams Sr. and Nell McCallum Williams and died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at age 90. He was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. He retired from Allied Signal (now Exxon), where he was a chemical engineer with 36 years of service. Roger started up and was plant manager of Allied Chemical Plastics Plant in Painesville, Ohio. While in Ohio, he served as director of the chamber of commerce for two terms. In 1970, Roger was transferred to the Baton Rouge Plastics Plant, where he remained until his retirement in 1982. After retirement, he and his beloved wife, Lucy, moved to Lake Rosemound in St. Francisville. Lake Rosemound is where he spent the remainder of his life doing what he enjoyed the most: gardening, fishing, boating, swimming and playing bridge. He also cheered on the Tigers with family and friends, even though he secretly pulled for Ohio State on game days. Roger was an avid golfer and past president of the Men's Golf Association at Fairwood Country Club and traveled extensively throughout his career. He is survived by three daughters, Ronnie Lou Williams Corcoran, of St. Francisville, Jacqueline Williams Thompson and husband Dr. Michael Thompson, of Ballwin, Mo., and Patricia Williams Carter and husband Frank L. Carter Sr., of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Jennifer C. Reynolds and husband Mark A. Reynolds and Patti C. Allen and husband Robby S. Allen, all of Prairieville, Mollee M. Thompson, of Ballwin, Katie L. Carter, of New Orleans, and Buzz Carter, of Hammond; three great-grandchildren, Max Allen, Lucy Allen and Emma Kate Reynolds; a brother, Alexander "Bill" Williams and wife Virginia Williams, of Marietta, Ga.; a nephew, Peter Williams; and niece, Sarah Jane Williams. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lucetta Eckert Williams; and his parents, Nell McCallum Williams and Roger Sylvanus Williams Sr. Pallbearers will be Frank Carter, Michael Thompson, Mark Reynolds, Robby Allen, Buzz Carter and Katie Carter. The family would like to thank Dr. Challie Daniels, Theresa Whetstone, his home health nurse, and the staff of Amedysis Hospice. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. until service at noon. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, 10528 Kentshire Court, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.

Jennifer:
My deepest condolences to you and your family for the loss of your grandfather, "Pepop". He must have been an interesting man and loved by many. From his obit he led a meaningful and fulfilling life. In the end, he died peacefully with his loved ones in attendance. Now he has rejoined his beloved wife in Heaven, where God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And, he shall rest peacefully in the presence of our Lord and Savior, until he is rejoined with his family.

Family and Friends,
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and kind words of support. I'm so grateful that he is no longer suffering and has moved on to a better place. Our Pepop was a wonderful man, who honored and provided for his family our whole lives. There will never be another man like him. I'm so blessed to have had him in my life. I'm so proud to say he was my grandfather- my most favorite person that ever lived. He will dwell in my heart forever. "Thank you Pepop for being you, I'll miss you most of all"~
