It breaks my heart to learn of the passing of Dr. Sims, knowing I missed the chance to thank her for impacting my life in the significant way she did. In my memory she is "Ms Sims": my freshman History teacher at SU in 1973. She did nothing less than give me confidence in my intelligence; give me much needed self-esteem and belief in myself that became the foundation for a career including a B.S., 2 doctorates, board certification, relocating to Europe and becoming a globally recognized expert/consultant. "Ms Sims" said I had an analytical mind when I did not know what the word meant! I will be eternally thankful to you Dr. Sims for your invaluable contribution to my life. God bless your soul.

Dr. Simms you will be greatly missed. You were a black feminist by definition but definitely a historian. You made us proud to be black at all times. I still remember many of your stories and anecdotes.

Dr. Simms was my History professor at Southern. She was well respected. A very knowledgeable instructor who took her job serious and stayed on top of her students. To this day I don't allow anyone to walk in front of me while I'm speaking. She would let her students have when they came in late and walked pass her while she was engaged in a conversation. Rest easy Dr. Simms.

I was a student of Ms. Simms at Scotlandville High school. When the class of 1967 graduated and many of us went to Southern University, Ms. Simms went with us. There she was able to share life and history with so many other students from around the country. She was a fine teacher and will be remembered. To Ms. Geraldine, my mother sends her personal condolences.

I will always cherish my memories of being among the top students, along with Ruby Jean, of the first class to graduate from Scotlandville High School. We all loved the competition among each other and always endeavored to be the best at any task we attempted. Excellence was our goal and I believe Ruby Jean stayed focused on that goal. May your hearts also be filled with cherished memories as you celebrate a life well lived.

Dr. Simms was truly a pioneer and civil rights activist in the Scotlandville community. While teaching, she told us many historical moments that took place right there on Scotland Ave. during the Civil Rights movement. She will be greatly missed by many. My condolences go out to the family.
