Sheila Ann Legarde

1955 - 2023

"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there, is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. ~2 Timothy 4: 7-8. "On January 15, 2023, our Father who hearth in heaven, whispered in Sheila's ear, "Well done my good and faithful servant." He opened his gates and Sheila Ann Legarde was home. Sheila was born on October 15, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the parents of Johnson and Vivian Sterling. She accepted Christ at an early age. Sheila is a graduate of Warren Easton Senior High School. As a part of her legacy, she was a part of the class that integrated this high school. She also studied at Southern University in Baton Rouge, earning a degree in Education. All of her life, she was known for her the service to the community. Even as a teenager, she volunteered to work with her peers who had disabilities. She was a Daycare Owner, Early Childhood Teacher and a Mentor to all. She retired from East Baton Rouge Parish Public Housing Department. Sheila loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Sheila was always the life of the party and would dance the night away. Sheila leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Milton (Lakesha) Legarde, Jr., Dwayne "Carnell" Legarde, one daughter, Vivian Legarde, 10 grandchildren, Tylique Legarde, Taylan Legarde, Jabari Grahm, Jaivan Legarde, Braylan Legarde, TaLiyah Brown, LaCamron Collins, Darron Graham, Emanuel Ratcliff, and Freddie Stycr; one great grandson, Tyje Legarde all of Baton Rouge, LA., her longtime companion, Harry Edwards., one sister, Stephanie Sterling of Baton Rouge, LA., two brothers, James (Lynn) Sterling, Rodney (Danita) Sterling, all of New Orleans, LA., her godchildren, Tyra Martin of New Orleans, LA, Clyde Wilkerson III, Takeisha Caine, Kendria Castle, Kennetta Caine and Kimberly Emery all of Baton Rouge, LA., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnson and Vivian Sterling, siblings, Gwendolyn Traylor, Brenda Sterling-Joseph, Bruce Sterling, Wendy Smith; aunts, Velma Pate, Gloria Jackson, and Morle Martin; uncles, Forest Jackson, Jim Jackson, Jr. (JaJune); and grandparents Richard and Emily Sterling, Jim Sr., and Beatrice Jackson. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend her Funeral Service at Allen Chapel AME Church, 6175 Scenic Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11:00 am.
