Stephen "Dwayne" Chapman

1953 - 2024

Stephen "Dwayne" Chapman, age 70, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Dwayne was born on July 9, 1953, in Basile, Louisiana, to Joseph Huey and Ludra Marie Chapman. He graduated from Basile High School and moved on to becoming a Machinery Specialist at ExxonMobil. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church and participated in the church choir. Dwayne also enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, rebuilding BMW motorcycles, and spending time with his family. Dwayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeanne Chapman; his mother Ludra Chapman; daughter, Marie Chapman Russell; sons, Stephen Chapman II and Dr. Casey Chapman; sister, Brenda Chapman Lejeune; grandchildren, Kenneth Russell IV, Hannah Russell, Lillian Russell, Carter Chapman, Gabe Chapman, Julia Chapman, Grant Chapman, and Drew Chapman; daughters-in-law, Kacie Chapman and Dr. Kristin Chapman; brother-in-law, Larry Lejeune; and son-in-law, Kenneth Russell III. Dwayne is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Huey Chapman. The family would like to give a special thanks to their dearest friend and "adopted" daughter, Shannon Boone, one of Dwayne's best "laughing buddies." Other special thanks go to Charlie's Place that provided music, laughter, and companionship when most needed, and the caregivers that helped Dwayne including Crystle, Barbara, and Shana. Special thanks as well to The Pearl at Jamestown for their care and kindness. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at St. George Catholic Church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the start of the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery, officiated by Father Paul Yi and Father Trey Nelson.
